As many of you have noticed, a lot of us that came in under the same fandoms have drifted over time. That's normal, especially as fandoms shift, canons close, and people move on. I'm just curious though - what fandoms do you now claim as home? I'm kinda curious to see where my friends have found themselves in their fandom lives. So... a poll![Poll #1471249][Poll #1471249]

Define "active" vs. "passive" as you're relating them to fandom.

Date: 2009-10-14 08:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Active: either you're devouring canon material, reading fic, writing fic, participating in online communities, attending in-person meetups, costuming, creating/viewing fanart, making/watching fanvids, and so on.

Passive: You like it, you've watched/read/enjoyed the canon, but you're not involved in fandom activities as listed above. It might be a fandom in which you were once active.

Ok, I've defined 'active' as meaning 'write/consider writing and reading fic regularly' and 'passive' as meaning 'consuming canon, reading fic occasionally'.

My other 'active' fandom is Alex Rider. The TV shows I'm passively interested in beyond what's named are the BBC Robin Hood, and Farscape.

My "passive" fandoms are CSI:Vegas (specifically Nick/Greg) and MASH, mostly slashy stuff with that, but I got a bit of het too, I am kinda starting to get back into the other fandoms, but I think Star Trek is my new permanent home!

My active fandom: work. Therefore the classical world. Which makes me geeky beyond belief. *headkeyboard*

But everything else is awesome, too.

And no getting sick again! *hugs* And yes, I got your email/comment today, but I fail at replying in more than one place. This'll do. :D

Yeah, sick again, I think. I think someone who came to my geeky meetup/gathering last weekend must have been carrying a bug because now a lot of us from that gathering are getting sick. Either that, or it's just going around. *sigh*

It's good to see that you're still alive out there! And yay for the classical world! I should read some of the old classics... do I need to learn Old English for that? Or Greek? Or Latin?

Harry potter got replaced as soon as the Star Trek movie came out and I saw it.

Four times.

In two days.

Ahem.

So then I had to download all the original episodes. And there is so much UST in there...

I've tried to go back to HP. I really have. But I have found that since Star Trek is a much older fandom, quite a few of the fans are a lot older, so the quality tends to be better. There were definitely a few gems in HP, but I'm finding that caliber in nearly everything I read in Trek.

Plus... you know... episodes and UST and OT3 and all that jazz.

My not mentioned, and hardly known, current fandom is The Mentalist. Frickin love that show. I don't ship anyone, though... which is weird... for me...

As for other... Well, there's this kids show called Phineas and Ferb. That I'm, like... addicted to. A little.

Just starting on Heros

I never really consider myself to be in the fandom for anything. I do make costumes for lots of things. The things I have most often made costumes for are the Wheel of Time books and the Girl Genius webcomic. I don't read fanfic. I don't write fanfic. I don't generally participate in fandom communities (although again, I am on a WoT board and a GG comm, mostly for the costuming). I don't art. I wouldn't even know where to begin to make a video, and I'm perplexed that other people make videos. I sound like a crochety old man, but there's lots about fandom that I just do not get.

GLEE!! I can't get enough of this show. I've watched each of the episodes at least three times, am actively pleased to read PG fics and have listened to the songs so many times my two year old can sing them. It's a little ridiculous.

The fandoms that I would, I dunno, sacrifice limbs for? Are all anime/manga these days. Probably in this order: Ouran High School Host Club (anime and manga, manga is ongoing), Darker Than Black (anime, season 2 is airing now), Nabari no Ou (manga, ongoing), and Kyou Kara Maou (I'm in the process of reading the novels in German.)

Harry Potter's a weird one, because it used to be a big chunk of my life, and then I sort of went off all of fandom. I was almost a normal person before the whole Ten/Master bit me on the ass, and now Star Trek and Merlin take up lots of my brain (esp Merlin with it's many, many pairings, but I LOVE Gwen/Morgana because I think they're beautiful together).

My other fandom! (which I forgot to mention on the survey), is Law and Order UK, which has Jamie Bamber from Battlestar Galactica and Freema Ageyman (who I'm a little in love with). A lot of Doctor Who fans are into that. And one of the things I absolutely adore about Star Trek is that I'm meeting all sorts of old authors who've been brought back into the fold and lots of new amazing inspired writers.

HP and LotR are active only for costuming purposes.

Star Wars was active...until the Prequels came out.

Have I babbled at you about how wonderful novelists Seanan Mcguire, Jim Hines and Jim Butcher are? [livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire and [livejournal.com profile] jimhines are both fun and interesting to read.

Yeah, the Star Wars prequels actually killed my interest in being active in that fandom. I have a hard time not hating George Lucas after that.

My last active fandom is -- well, it's known by a lot of names. The first three games were known as Phoenix Wright in English, but in Japan they were called Gyakuten Saiban. The fourth was also Gyakuten Saiban, but in the US it was Apollo Justice--so there is no way to refer to the entire series by one English name.

And then Perfect Prosecutor was announced, and Perfect Prosecutor is Gyuakten Kenji in Japan. For simplicity's sake, I usually call the series Gyakuten, but most people still just call it the PW series.

My non-active fandom is Furuba - Fruits Basket. Oh! And also the Zelda series of video games. Let me go add that in.

OH! And I would consider The Demon's Lexicon to be a non-active fandom of mine.

My other big TV fandom at the moment is House. I just started poking my head into other people's fic, so it remains to be seen if I stick around. I have a lot of old canon to catch up on, but I keep edging farther and farther into active status. This might also happen with Scrubs or Pushing Daisies, should I become sufficiently enamoured.

I hemmed and hawed a bit over Harry Potter. I'm nowhere near as active as I once was, but I'm still reading/writing fic.

My "other" is the TV series "Being Human".
