Just a reminder to everyone...

The USS Macchiato sails this Saturday!  We begin our mission on the ice planet of Delta Vega at the Crown Center Ice Terrace at 2:00 PM.  Trekkies on Ice!  Two hours of ice skating with your fellow crewmates.

At 4:00 (or when we start to freeze), we'll head back to my place.  There, my Trophy Wife and Acting CMO will be serving cookies and hot chocolate.  I'll also have a large pot of my chili, in case you want something without an overdose of sugar.  Please, if you are so inclined, feel free to bring snacks and/or drinks!  We will provide both some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but if you have a strong preference, please either TELL me, or bring some along!

The party at my house will continue until we're too tired to function.  There will be Trek episodes and movies playing in the TV room, and socializing space aplenty in the living room and kitchen.  I know at least a couple of people are planning to spend the night, but we still have space left.  Please remember - nobody drives home drunk, nobody drives home overtired.  If we need to, we WILL make space for you.  We can launder clothes, provide towels and shower supplies, and we even keep an emergency supply of new, in-package toothbrushes.  However, if you are planning to stay over, please let me know!

Additional information is available in THIS POST.

Please remember to go there to RSVP!  See you on Saturday!

It was a small but enthusiastic bunch that came together yesterday. [livejournal.com profile] mizuno_caitlin and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] ruisseau at tje Javanaut coffee house on 39th street.

Later, [livejournal.com profile] mizuno_caitlin and I joined [livejournal.com profile] coldfireserge at the Crown Center ice skating rink, where a large gaggle of people from NakaKon planning (that's a local anime convention) had invaded the ice skating rink. One of the newest members of the group, [livejournal.com profile] eddieblackmaru , was actually there, having no prior knowledge that we were showing up. So she hung out with us, and that was awesome.

After ice skating, we stopped by my friend Paul's workplace to say hi - he's one of us, but isn't online, but you bb's will meet him at upcoming meetups, I do hope. He's awesome. [livejournal.com profile] mizuno_caitlin , [livejournal.com profile] coldfireserge , and I converged back at my house, where we were later joined by Paul, and we had Chinese food, lots of tea, and talked meta, canon, actors, and many other forms of geekery until something like 2:00 AM. The laptops came out. Silliness was shared. For not being a "real" meetup, we had a good time.

More geeky details at the USS Macchiato's group page, HERE.

The Kansas City Star Trek meetup group (aka the USS Macchiato) is planning its holiday party! If you have any interest in coming, please stop by the planning post here:

A Very Trekkie Holiday!

We're barely 24 hours out from the first large-scale meetup for the Kansas City Star Trek group. To make sure everyone is on the same page, here's our last-minute summary and planning post.

THE PLAN:
At 2:00 PM, we meet at McCoy's in Westport. This is a brewery/restaurant. The website for the place is HERE if you want to scope it out first. The address is:
4057 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111

After we eat, drink, and be merry, we'll proceed to my house which is about 1.5 miles away. At my place, the fun continues with a screening of the new DVD and special features, and then some old-school TOS or one of the older movies. (Does anyone have a blu-ray player?)

The party ends when we collapse from the sheer exhaustion of squeeing all night.

For more information, GO HERE. (Also, while you're there, join the group!)

Here's the idea:  I'd like to have at least one meetup before Thanksgiving.  I want it to be relaxed, low-key, simple, and fun.  I want to make sure that as many people as possible can attend, and that the venue will be conducive to everyone.  We've got folks in Lawrence, folks in Kansas City, and even someone out in Topeka.  I think I'd like to do this meetup in Kansas City, and the next one in Lawrence.

Here's the plan:  Either this Saturday (the 14th) OR next Saturday (the 21st), we'll get together for food, drinks, movie/episode watching, and general geekery.

We'd start at McCoy's in Westport around 2:00 PM.  Food, drinks, breaking the ice, general silliness.  For anyone who hasn't been there, McCoy's is a restaurant and brewery.  They have a fantastic selection of their own beers, and their food is just damned good.  You DO NOT have to be 21+ to go in - it's a restaurant, not a bar.  Even though it's a Saturday, 2:00 PM shouldn't be too crowded, and we'll probably be able to geek out to our hearts' content without distracting the mundane folks.

After food and beer and socializing, I personally invite everyone to join me at my house, which is less than two miles from McCoy's, and within very easy access of I-35 and other major roads.  (I'm near KU Med.)  The party continues until folks get tired and need to leave.
