As many of you have noticed, a lot of us that came in under the same fandoms have drifted over time. That's normal, especially as fandoms shift, canons close, and people move on. I'm just curious though - what fandoms do you now claim as home? I'm kinda curious to see where my friends have found themselves in their fandom lives. So... a poll![Poll #1471249][Poll #1471249]

Date: 2009-10-14 09:04 pm (UTC)But everything else is awesome, too.
And no getting sick again! *hugs* And yes, I got your email/comment today, but I fail at replying in more than one place. This'll do. :D

Date: 2009-10-14 09:07 pm (UTC)It's good to see that you're still alive out there! And yay for the classical world! I should read some of the old classics... do I need to learn Old English for that? Or Greek? Or Latin?
no subject
Date: 2009-10-14 09:11 pm (UTC):D You can read them in translation. But yeah, the learning of Greek and Latin takes up a fair chunk of my time. And what I'm supposed to be doing at the moment but aren't because I'm lazy and it's in for Friday anyway? Translating a poem about a man castrating himself.
It's quite strange at times. :D

Date: 2009-10-15 03:46 pm (UTC)Translating a poem about a man castrating himself? Dare I ask? Yes, strange, but most stories really are strange, if you look at them closely.
So, when do you get some breathing space from school? Winter break between semesters?

Date: 2009-10-15 04:29 pm (UTC)It's one of Catullus' poems - number 63, I think. I haven't got much further than that (*is a lazy arse*), but it's kinda odd - especially considering after he's castrated himself, all the adjectives/whatnot that agree with him (in terms of word endings and the like) become feminine. Which I like, in a geeky sort of way. /ranting geekery :D
Breathing space? Quite soon, actually. :D We have half term in a little under a week, which means I get a week and a half off, in which I am just going to sprawl. Good tiiiiiimes. :D

Date: 2009-10-15 04:47 pm (UTC)I think it has more to do with the fact that several nasty viruses are going around right now, that I was in close-contact with a whole bunch of people this past weekend, and that I got just a little bit hypothermic on Saturday because I was outside in windy conditions with temperatures barely above freezing for about three hours wearing nothing but a ripped t-shirt. Hehe... my bad. :D
/ranting geekery
I like the geekery. I'm gonna go look it up. :D
And OMG YAY FOR YOU HAVING BREATHING SPACE!!! You sprawl and relax and... maybe... spend some time on LJ with all of your geeky friends?
And now... I'm gonna continue enjoying my large mug of Earl Grey tea and watching the Search for Spock. :D

Date: 2009-10-15 04:58 pm (UTC)Dude. Not clever. *gives jumper*
And if we're on the subject of recommending Latin poetry, Catullus 16. :D Especially the translation given on the Wikipedia page. Ah, that man's very, very rude.
spend some time on LJ with all of your geeky friends?
God, I hope so. It depends, though - my parents/brother are going away for a bit at half term, but I'm staying at home, so I think basically all my RL friends are pitching up at my house and camping out for a few days, but I should be able to be online-sociable for a bit. *dances*
... and is it bad that you say Earl Grey and I think Picard? :D
no subject
Date: 2009-10-15 05:13 pm (UTC)No, it wasn't clever. But... but... it was awesome, because I was a ZOMBIE REDSHIRT!!! We had three of us done up as zombie redshirts! It was a charity walk to raise hunger awareness and for people to donate non-perishable goods to a local food pantry charity. Zombie walk for hunger. And what better to make a zombie than a redshirt, or a whole squad of them? :D
Pictures soon, I promise.

Sounds delightful! *goes hunting*

Have fun with your RL friends, too, of course. I just hope to get to see you, too. I'm greedy like that. :D
And no, it's not bad to think Picard. I used to watch a whole VHS of TNG episodes every time I was sick, and I'd accompany that with several cups of Earl Grey tea throughout the day. And yes, blame Picard for that. I like good tea anyway, but it was a fun excuse for it.
And gods, I had forgotten how much I loved the TOS crew's interactions, in the series or the movies. I just love those guys. It had been too long since I'd seen them.

:D Greedy is not a bad thing. But, alas, there are not enough hours in the day for everything I want to do. *angry face* Stupid time, with its linearness.
It had been too long since I'd seen them.
You been rewatching, then? Or just in general? Eh, that's another thing I want to do when days lengthen to forty hours each: watch TOS. *glares at to-do list*

Date: 2009-10-15 05:28 pm (UTC)Yes, stupid linearness of time. I've considered trying to alter it, but there's that whole time-space continuum thing with its risk of destroying reality. I also thought about slowing the rotation of the earth, but then we'd cause planet-wide cataclysm and destruction of all life on the planet, so I scratched that idea.
And yeah, I'm re-watching all of this. TOS, the movies... I'd always loved them, but I just hadn't seen them in so long. I love the new movie for so many reasons, but not the least of which is that it's making me remember what I loved about the originals all over again. :D

Date: 2009-10-15 05:34 pm (UTC)Also, that icon confuses me. I mean, I get what it means, but it seems to imply a certain negativity towards the new film which you don't seem to have, so... *is confused*
no subject
Date: 2009-10-15 05:41 pm (UTC)I don't still have that negativity. I've got a lot of love for the new movie. It just took me a while. I don't use that icon anymore, really. But I thought it was well made, how I matched up the images.
But no, I'm not negative to the new movie anymore at all. :)

Date: 2009-10-15 05:52 pm (UTC)Basically, I'm being wonderfully nosy. :D *hugs*

Date: 2009-10-15 06:00 pm (UTC)Yeah, shiny icon from the few weeks when I was still having a hard time wrestling with the changes to canon and my beloved characters. And now, I've just come to the conclusion that I have new beloved characters!
Also, the more I watch Shatner's Kirk in TOS and the old movies, the more I see the parts I loved so much coming through in Chris Pine's incarnation of Kirk. :)

Date: 2009-10-15 06:05 pm (UTC)And now, I've just come to the conclusion that I have new beloved characters!
:D The best way to think about it, I think, because otherwise your brain will just implode. Which would be bad. *hugs*
no subject
Date: 2009-10-15 06:10 pm (UTC)And yes, if I didn't think about it that way, my brain WOULD implode, and that would be messy. Like Vulcan. Imploding things is bad.
Now, I'm watching "The Voyage Home." I think I'm just gonna watch them all. :D
I SHOULD do some more fanfic work, but... meh, MOVIES!!! It's tradition for me to watch Star Trek when I'm sick. I feel like a kid again! Granted, the sore throat and aching lungs suck, but I think I'm kinda having fun. :D
no subject
Date: 2009-10-15 06:24 pm (UTC)And feeling like a kid is not a bad thing. :D Especially when you're sick, methinks. And feel better soon, mmkay? Being sick is no fun. Although, to be honest, you can still be achey when you're well. *pulls face* I was vaccinated against cervical cancer today, and my arm hurts. Goddamnit. *pokes arm*
no subject
Date: 2009-10-15 06:38 pm (UTC)You're right - it's not such a bad thing to feel like a kid when you're sick. And I don't think I'm going to get too sick this time. Keeping my fingers crossed (however illogical that might be), I think this is just a mild respiratory bug. I hope.
And ouchie! Shots suck. I was *supposed* to go get my flu shot today, but they say they won't give it to you when you're sick. I dunno... maybe I can sneak in and get it done anyway. I promised my wife I'd get it done. Granted, I really don't want to. I hate needles. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em. *shudders*
