New Cat! Now, we need a name.

So, fiona_fawkes and I went to our Solstice/Yule gathering last night. Somebody had rescued a mother cat and a litter of kittens that had been abandoned. The cats were obviously abandoned, not feral. Anyway, four of the kittens were brought to the gathering in an attempt to find new homes for them.

Fi has always said that we can't get a cat. She's allergic, and while she likes cats, it's just not worth it to need to be on allergy meds all the time. Plus, we've got a dog.

Anyway, as soon as the kittens came out, I had to hold out. I picked up this grey tabby with beautiful markings around her eyes. She was so sweet. Cuddly. Calm. Affectionate. And then I handed the cat to Fi.

So... we've got a cat now. And we're debating names. Please vote in the poll, and leave comments as appropriate. (Or, conversely, inappropriate.)

Oh, you guys! I'm a total cat lady, love them terribly, so it makes me feel great to hear about people saving cats who might not otherwise survive. ♥ Thank you for being sweet people.

I voted Macro, but Minnie would be my second choice.

I have two cats, and I went for "people names" for both because of what I named the first one: George. Yes, for George Weasley, but nobody needs to know that in my RL. :P Beautiful ginger tabby, and a few days after I got him he had proved that he was sweet (and George is often considered the "nicer twin") but also mischievous enough to earn a twin name. :DDDD

So my second kitten was named Lucy. It seemed to mesh well with George.

I couldn't resist. Last night, we were getting her settled, and she was essentially pouting, and I quipped, "F-cat is not impressed.) Fi sporfled. It was too cute. So, even though I knew it wouldn't be the final choice, it HAD to go on the poll, if only to make silly. So, glad to help check another one off the "list". *grins*

"Minerva" was the first name we thought of, largely because she's a grey tabby with interesting spectacle-shaped markings around her eyes, and a very distinct "M" pattern on her forehead.

I have a land tortoise named after me. My little cousin named her after me when she was seven; my cousin is 48 now and the tortoise is still going strong. I'm afraid that Alicia will long outlive me. ;)

She sounds sweet. It looks like Minnie is winning in the poles. That is very cute. But, all your options are great! Naming pets is something I totally lose at. I named my little dog Daisy the very second I saw her, because she was white and sweet and friendly looking--like a Daisy. Little did I know that EVERYONE names their dogs Daisy :-/

And, I realized that had I given it a day or two, she would have done really well with either the name Bridget (as in Jones--because she's so consistently neurotic and a horrible flirt with the boys) or something weird from a Dr. Seus book--because of her CRAZY HAIR OMG. But, it was Daisy from the start and there it is. I can't imagine her as anything else now.

Point? I dunno. Just--whatever you name her, it'll be perfect. :-)

I feel I should qualify my vote for Jesus with the fact that I *am* the person who had pet rats named Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, and Straterra. Because it was quite entertaining to be able to say things like "Have you met Prozac?" :) (And also "I like Prozac and Paxil." And so on. :) )

I went with Macro because that just says so much about you and Fi. Besides, naming a cat is more for the owner than the cat because they will never come when you call them and most just look at you with this, "why are you annoying me?" look.

To keep the allergies down, get the kitten in the habit of being gently bathed at least once a month. The biggest cat allergens are to the build up of dried saliva on the cat's coat.

My brother had an orange tabby that he named "Grandpa." Much hilarity ensued. My personal favorite was the time we were Christmas shopping together and his roommate called to tell him the cat peed on the carpet. My brother stood in the middle of the mall and said "Well if Grandpa pees on the carpet again, just put him in a cage and I'll rub his nose in it when I get home." The looks from the other shoppers were priceless.
