Final Wand Business Name Poll
Jun. 18th, 2007 11:44 pmOkay, with much feedback, both on and off the journal, here's what I've got...
I'm definitely going to use the catch phrase "Got Wood?" as a tag line. it won't be the main business name, but I'll definitely use it. In fact, I'm probably going to do two-sided business cards with the phrase "Got wood?" written on an otherwise blank back of the card.
Now, the list of possibilities for the actual name:
Earthwood Wands
Greenwood Wands
Wands of the Wyrd
Woods of the Wyrd
Wyrdwood Wands
Phoenixwood Wands
You can see the theme I'm playing right now. Do you have any other similar suggestions? Do any of these stand out? Gah, I hate picking names and titles. Help?

Date: 2007-06-19 04:05 am (UTC)Otherwise, uh... eliminate "Woods of the Wyrd" because it doesn't even say what you sell.
Eliminate Wyrdwood Wands because it's too alliterative... sounds cliche, to me.
Wands of the Wyrd ... hell, "wyrd" doesn't convey a sense of mysticality like the other adjectives. It may have meaning, to you, but for a business, you, sadly, are looking to sell to people who have a vague interest in magic, or are just out for Potter memorabilia. You want mass appeal, as the goal here is to make money, remember that. Eliminate this.
I'd eliminate Phoenixwood Wands because it requires three syllables to pronounce before you get to the product, and that makes the product itself "sound weird" in the minds of consumers.
This leaves two possibilities. I'd probably go for Earthwood over Greenwood, because "earth" signifies mysticality and wand power more than a color does, and it's simple, easy to pronounce, and sticks in the minds of the consumer. The alliteration of the second and third syllable worries me slightly, but hey, this is just Nick being highly analytic and using advanced level marketing strategies for a sole proprietorship selling hand-made wands. =P

Date: 2007-06-19 04:19 am (UTC)But Earthwood Wands and Greenwood Wands both seem too bland to me.
My favorite is Wyrdwood Wands.
but maybe that's just 'cause I'm wyrd*grins*

Date: 2007-06-19 06:40 pm (UTC)Overall, though, I do like Woods of the Wyrd. I must agree with the person who said they'd respect a business that didn't "dumb down" to buyers, because while not *everyone* interested in a wand would be familiar with the term "wyrd," I don't think it's as unusual (especially once you enter the pagan community which is a huge client base for you) as some people may think.
I'm still running ideas through my head, and if I come up with anything new, I'll email you. Also, if you ARE interested in putting any wands for sale through the consignment site I started, let me know right away. If we can get it together and even get one of them up there before you leave, then you could also put the website on your cards, which lends credibility to any business. :)

Date: 2007-06-19 10:29 pm (UTC)Okay, In light of that, I was going to go for 'Phoenixwood Wands' cause I likes the phoenix, but to be honest, it doesn't roll off my tongue.
'Wands of the Wyrd' is nice
'Earthwood Wands' is the easiest to read and say, and is less ambiguous.
OR, what about 'Mijan's Wands'?
(yeah, yeah, I know...)
