New Years Meetup?

Hi everyone! I'm coming to New York on Saturday, and staying through Monday. I'm planning to do Times Square for New Years Eve, but I'm going to be around for the better part of three days. I'd love to get together with people, even if it's only to meet up for coffee. OR, even better, maybe we could gather a group of us to meet at Times Square together for Sunday night. I'm also trying to get rush tickets for RENT on Sunday afternoon. For anyone going to be in the NYC area, are you interested in any of these things?

I'm going to be staying at singlewoman 's house in New Jersey, but we're going to be in the city quite a bit. I hope some people have the time to meet up. Doesn't have to be anything big or fancy. I just miss people, and would love to hang out. New Years Eve antics would be even better. Any takers?

Well, I'm going to be in NJ tomorrow evening, with my gracious hostess. However, she and I will be spending the afternoon and evening in NYC. I'm hoping to be on the bus that arrives in Chinatown around 11:00 (if I can wake up early enough to catch that bus). Times Square

I was in New York for New Year's eve in 2002. If you want to actually BE in Times Square for the "ball drop" you have to stake out your space pretty early in the day. As each block got full when I was there, the NYC police partitioned off the block and sent folks one block further south towards Central Park.
We had gone to see Phantom of the OPera about 2 blocks from Times Square, thinking we would just wander over for the big show. We ended up back at our hotel, across from Carnegie Hall. That section of street was already blocked off, but they had to let us through since we were staying there. The upside was that, since we were midway between Times Square and Central Park, we had a great view of both sets of fireworks.

Eep! I had no idea that's how they do it, but it makes sense. What time would you recommend us "staking out" our space? My sister wants to go to a matinee show of RENT, which gets out at 5:00. Should we not do the show, if we want to get into Times Square?

There is no way I am braving Times Square, but I'd love to see you some other time while you're here. Not sure what I'm up to Sunday, but I could maybe be up for Rent depending on ticket price and timing.

For Rent, we're trying for rush tickets. About $21. We'd have to be there at 12:30 to put our names in the bucket. Can you do that?

Anyhow, it was lovely to encounter you amongst the other carbon-based life forms at Arisia this weekend. And yes, you really ought to do Daniel Jackson for a costume next time. It would look awesome!
