Sectus + HP7 release = OMGWTFSQUEEWAH!
Feb. 1st, 2007 01:15 pmPRE-EDIT:
This just in: Sectus has released a preliminary "statement" about their plans of how to handle this new development. From my own little soapbox, I BEG people, cut the Sectus committee some slack. They didn't plan this, and now, with only a few months to go, and most of the plans already made, they have to scrable around the BIGGEST "official" Harry Potter event since the series began. So, here's the link to their press release. http://community.livejournal.com/sectus_2007/10659.html
And now, we return you to my original ramble:
Okay, I'd been saying for ages that I wanted to go to London for the release of the 7th Harry Potter book... and it looks like I was going, and I didn't even know it! Is it pathetic that I'm getting all teary-eyed and emotional?
So, the Squee Factor first: The Sectus committee is already working on getting copies of the book to be delivered TO the convention at midnight, and there will be space set up for all-night reading, and... and... this will be the best all-night reading party EVER. And... OMG, I have this thought that would just be beyond incredible, but I'm NOT going to say anything here for fear that I might jinx it. But I already told

And now... the flip side of this: I can only hope that this doesn't kill the fandom side of the convention. You know - the ships, the slash, the fandom in-jokes, and the feel of the previous conventions. I'm determined that I'm going to have the most incredible time, but... I go to conventions for fandom stuff. It will certainly be different than the previous line parties, but... I didn't want a line party. I wanted a convention. I'm not paying the hotel and the convention registration fee to sit in a room and read a book. I'm paying for the panels and events and fandom socialization. And, naturally, like all the other die-hards, I'm just NOT READY for this. And... *sigh*
I know that a LOT of people are bouncing and squeeing, and a LOT of people are getting a bit upset and depressed and wibbly. I'll be honest... I sympathize with both, and I'm dealing with both sides of the coin for myself right now. HOWEVER, we CAN'T change the release date. We can't change what JKR will write. We can only choose whether or not we want to read it, and when. Therefore, we can get upset over something that we can't change, or enjoy the event when it comes. I'm already stressed enough over work and other stuff, so the last thing I need is to get upset about something that should make me happy. I'm going to make the most of it, because... well... it's better than being miserable.
So now... pardon me whilst I bounce and squee!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! (*bouncebouncebounce*)
