mijan: (YAY KERMIT!)

PRE-EDIT:
This just in:  Sectus has released a preliminary "statement" about their plans of how to handle this new development.  From my own little soapbox, I BEG people, cut the Sectus committee some slack.  They didn't plan this, and now, with only a few months to go, and most of the plans already made, they have to scrable around the BIGGEST "official" Harry Potter event since the series began.  So, here's the link to their press release.  http://community.livejournal.com/sectus_2007/10659.html

And now, we return you to my original ramble:
Okay, I'd been saying for ages that I wanted to go to London for the release of the 7th Harry Potter book... and it looks like I was going, and I didn't even know it!  Is it pathetic that I'm getting all teary-eyed and emotional?

So, the Squee Factor first:  The Sectus committee is already working on getting copies of the book to be delivered TO the convention at midnight, and there will be space set up for all-night reading, and... and... this will be the best all-night reading party EVER.  And... OMG, I have this thought that would just be beyond incredible, but I'm NOT going to say anything here for fear that I might jinx it.  But I already told

[profile] fiona_fawkes....  actually, she said it while I was thinking it, and... OMG it would be incredible!

And now... the flip side of this:  I can only hope that this doesn't kill the fandom side of the convention.  You know - the ships, the slash, the fandom in-jokes, and the feel of the previous conventions.  I'm determined that I'm going to have the most incredible time, but... I go to conventions for fandom stuff.  It will certainly be different than the previous line parties, but... I didn't want a line party.  I wanted a convention.  I'm not paying the hotel and the convention registration fee to sit in a room and read a book.  I'm paying for the panels and events and fandom socialization.  And, naturally, like all the other die-hards, I'm just NOT READY for this.  And... *sigh*

I know that a LOT of people are bouncing and squeeing, and a LOT of people are getting a bit upset and depressed and wibbly.  I'll be honest... I sympathize with both, and I'm dealing with both sides of the coin for myself right now.  HOWEVER, we CAN'T change the release date.  We can't change what JKR will write.  We can only choose whether or not we want to read it, and when.  Therefore, we can get upset over something that we can't change, or enjoy the event when it comes.  I'm already stressed enough over work and other stuff, so the last thing I need is to get upset about something that should make me happy.  I'm going to make the most of it, because... well... it's better than being miserable.

So now... pardon me whilst I bounce and squee!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!  (*bouncebouncebounce*)

Congrats on being in London for Sectus. I'm seeing a lot of concern that the con will now be turned on its ear and it will be all about the book.

Still, if it goes on sale here at midnight, or even 9am on that date, it will still be a good 5 or 6 hours before the usa, and like last time, I will be busy putting up chapter summaries as I read.

So yesh, I'll be keeping you other lot up to date on the book as I read :D

I have mixed emotions about it, too. I'm worried I will be disapointed with her ending, and I worry it will kill off good fic with alternate endings. But I'm excited, too. I just wish she would have waited a little longer...

Well, all we can really say is that whatever happens... will happen. I still wonder why she picked that day... and suspect that it's related to Sectus. Just my theory. LOL.

Ooo, London. I have never been to London (or across the Pond, for that matter.) If you could give me a ballpark as to how much this would cost, I'd love to go.

Well, registration for Sectus is 65 British Pounds (about $110). Then, there's the cost for the flight, and then sharing a hotel room. I'm sharing with a couple of people, but I'm not yet sure if we have a fourth. I could ask. :)

Round-trip fares are about $1000 per person; it looks like it will drop to around $600 pp 2-3 months out. Hmmm...London...I would really like to see London.

Would you ask about the room? And could I possibly trade sewing something for you to have you carve me a wand?

Ooh, sewing for woodwork? You've got yourself a deal! Er... any chance you'd be able to make me a Triwizard Tournament costume? Or... what I've always wanted... Quidditch robes???

I was thinking Quiddich, tho I need to borrow a DVD, take lots of measurements, and make a muslin (a mock-up pattern.)

that sounds so out of hand--oh man, a whole reading room of fans at midnight, how unbelievably fantas-tique. I can't wait to read more about your Sectus plans!!

I was in London for GoF release, good times. NOTHING anywhere NEAR like how this sounds though... just unreal!!

I would love to attend Sectus... *sigh* however, I'm experiencing a lack of funds to visit my mom. So, maybe I can live vicariously through my fandom friends, eh? (@_@)

I hope that the fandom side of the convention does not get waylaid by this announcement. I agree with you about reading at a convention. I hope this does not turn into a line party, either.

I want the book in my hands as soon as possible, of course. So, not waiting another year certainly is groovy with me. SQUEE! I get to see the fifth movie and read the seventh book in the same year. How cool is that?

No matter what happens in the Deathly Hallows, I vow to continue writing slash and my OTPs and crossover fics. (Maybe I'll even post them. ^_^)

i understand - i feel so wibbly about the whole situation. i have been growing up with the book and my age has mostly somewhat followed harry's. in a way, its sort of an end to a chapter of my life - i have made so many friends through this book and the fandom it has created. i just hope to whatever deity is listening that the fandom and fanfics wont collapse or stop after the book. and that draco and harry end up ok (alive, single or preferably - however unlikely - together)

however, i am soooo excited! *high five*
