OMFG DRAGON*CON

Okay, so the title should say it all, but seriously, there's so much to say. This has been so fucking fantastic that I can't even begin to put it into words, but as you all know me, I'm going to try. I'm on the airplane right now, so I may have to cut this short and just post what I've written when they tell me to put the computer away. So here goes...
COSTUMES: I brought five costumes with me, had a friend bring one, and I wore all of the except the basic Hogwarts school robes. So, I costumed as Bones (Leonard McCoy) from Star Trek, in a TOS Starfleet uniform, not a reboot!uniform. That was the one I wore the most because it was the easiest to wear, PLUS I was most focused on the Trek Trak programming at the con. I wore Quidditch!Harry and Yule Ball Dress Robes!Harry. I also wore Frodo, which was tons of fun, as that one seemed to garner the most attention - including the attention of some of the actors I saw at various panels. I guess I'm a cute Hobbit. Additionally, I participated in the Dawn competition. I must be out of my fucking mind, but I agreed to be a costume-wearer for a friend's entry in the Dawn competition.
auroraceleste created costumes to represent the four branches of the military in Dawn!Goddess form. I wore Navy!Dawn because I was the person with... well... the most trim figure. Aside from the fact that the boots fucking HURT LIKE HELL (seriously, I was in PAIN), it was FUN. And apparently, the guy who draws Dawn said I was his personal favorite in the competition, which is a huge compliment to me.
And yeah... here are pictures of some of the costumes (with more to follow when we upload them):
Frodo!

I wonder if this will work on Orcs:

Bones!

Kirk may be flashier, but Bones gets all the ladies, you know.

He's dead, Jim.

Harry, lookin' sharp:

Me and my honey:

And... yes, I entered the Dawn competition. And yes, that means I was dressed as a girl. Scary shit, folks. Seriously. I've got better pics somewhere, but for now...

I've got a picture of me in Quidditch robes, but that's something I'll upload later... because...
CELEBRITIES: Yes, this is Dragon*Con, and yes, there are famous folks afoot. Because
pinkfinity is an amazing human being, she shocked and stunned and surprised me when I got a phone call on Sunday morning from one of her friends who was still at the convention telling me that she'd left a photo shoot pass to get my picture taken with Tom Felton. Of course, I was still in bed when she called, hadn't showered, was over-exhausted from staying up WAY too late (duh, it's D*Con), and had planned to sleep in. So, I rush through a shower, get into Quidditch robes, find out what time the photo op window was, and race to the Mariott from my hotel. I get there just in time, and... okay, so I go in for my turn, Tom looks at me, grins and says, "Oh, hello Daniel." I guess I make a good Harry if one of the actors calls me by the other actor's name. Oh, and I got him to hold the wand and... I said, "Would you hold my broomstick with me? I swear it's safe." He gives me this look, then looks amused and goes right along with it. Either way, he was pleasant, it was fun, and aside from the fact that the humidity totally flattened my hair, the photo looks great.
However, I spent almost ALL of my time in TrekTrak.
OMG TrekTrak. I had the best fucking time EVER. I got to see Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. Those two are a freakin' hoot. And... I think I like Shatner a bit more now. I'll tell you about that later. I got to see Patrick Stewart. And actually, the best parts were meeting and talking to the not-as-huge stars of the Trek universe. Please allow me to state for the record that Kate Mulgrew is an incredible human being, and that whereas I was always a fan of Voyager and always liked her character, I am now a fan of HER, completely aside from her role as the fictional Kathryn Janeway. But seriously, everyone I saw and met... they were all fantastic. The other fans, the people who ran the events, the panelists, EVERYONE. I don't even know how to begin talking about the amazingness that was TrekTrak.
And oh shit... my battery is running out. We're getting close to home anyway. I'll post more later! STORIES. OMG I have stories to tell...

Date: 2009-09-09 12:54 am (UTC)And seriously, I wanted to hang out, but I could feel my hands and feet getting tingly like my body was trying to shut down on me, and I needed to eat something.
Also, I am sick. I'm sure the severe lack of sleep had something to do with it. This has been the most amazing and insane weekend. Everything and nothing like what I expected and more than all of it.

Date: 2009-09-08 07:50 pm (UTC)I watched the video of their panel on YT and their awesomeness just keeps getting more awesome.
I would seriously sell my soul to be able to see them both in person like that. I have had the oppertunity to meet Nimoy, which was amazing, but I would kill for them to do a UK appearance together or even just for Shatner to come over again; it's been a while.
I live in the wrong country when it comes to this fandom.

Date: 2009-09-09 01:12 am (UTC)I must admit, I'm kinda jealous of people who live in the UK; it's seems like such an awesome place to live. But you're right - Americans DO get access to a lot of events and such. Still, remember that I had to travel over 2,000 kilometers to go to this convention, so just because it's in the same country doesn't mean it's close or convenient.

Date: 2009-09-08 08:04 pm (UTC)And you are the best Bones ever!
I'm so glad it was a blast! Can't wait to hear stories!

Date: 2009-09-09 01:14 am (UTC)I make a good Bones? REALLY? I was so afraid that I'd suck at that costume. I still want to take more pictures of that one and get the look right.

Date: 2009-09-09 12:40 am (UTC)The Tom Encounter, as it shall henceforth be known, was brief but fun. But seriously, that was the least interesting of my encounters. It just gets better from there. :D

OMG - making significant progress on the fic. You're going to feel very different about Toland by the end of this scene, oh yes. How goes the beta work?

Date: 2009-09-10 04:16 am (UTC)I totally saw you and fi at the ball! You were looking for the costume contest stuff, and the door guy had you outside, then you were all hey, my wife's over there" and he was all "wtf?" and she was all "wtf?" and then you were all "gtf overhere" and she was all "haha, oh yeah".
The end.
Well, I also saw you two around a few times, but didn't know it was you or I would have said hi lol. I assume you had a fantastic time :P
