Surprisingly, I'm not squee'ing about the movie as much as I am about the events surrounding it.  I went to the Boston Line Party at Loewe's Cinema on the Boston Commons, but that doesn't begin to describe the incredible two days I had there.  When the fandom overlaps with the real world... magical things happen...

One of the LP people, Brooke, had agreed to let me stay at her place for the event, because I couldn't afford a hotel.  Well, the little beeeyatch (I adore you, Brooke, don't worry) had tickets to the pre-screening on the 2nd.  I was going to meet her at the theatre to pick up the buttons for the prize-bags, and then go to Beerworks to meet with the members of the crew who didn't have tickets to the pre-screening.  Well, I followed her into the theatre... I was wearing the Gryffindor Quidditch t-shirt that I'd just made and had my Potter glasses and wand in my bag.  For me, that's enough to be a costume, because of the *cough* resemblence I have to Harry.  So, for kicks, I plopped on the glasses, mussed up my hair, pulled out the wand... and proceeded to get many double-takes from the people in the line.

That's when things got good.  One of the LP people who also had won a pass to the pre-screening didn't have someone to give the extra pass to.  So... I got in.  I was just in this total state of "whoa..."

We got the BEST seats, we giggled, we laughed, we SQUEE'd, and we slashed rampantly.  It was so cool.  Sadly, there seemed to be over 100 seats EMPTY in the theatre.  :(  We could have had more slashers in there!  Still, the entire theatre SQUEEE!'d when Snape said Remus and Sirius argued like an old married couple.  Theirloveissocanon!!!

*cough*  Yes, so... Brooke and I went back and got my car (the Gryffindor-mobile), parked it near her appartment.  We chilled out, had some tea, talked Potter with her roommate, and hit the sack.  Very comfy air mattress!  I slept like a baby, but I woke up too early from excitement.  Woke up hungry, of course.

Breugger's Bagels for breakfast, and then we walked through Boston.  I was still wearing my Gryffindor Quidditch t-shirt (I'm SO proud of that thing), and I was wearing my own glasses, so I was in total Potter-mode.

We got back to the appartment, watched the CoS movie to get psyched up for the next one (again), and then changed into costumes.  Booke was "just" a witch, her roommate went as a Dementor (extremely cool costume).  I had the most interesting time walking through the streets of Boston in that costume.  Nobody payed attention to Brooke, which wasn't fair because her costume rocked too, but people kept staring at me, and I heard more people say "Hey, it's Harry Potter!" than I'd ever heard in my life.  Bear in mind, I was also carrying the broomstick.  Even the conductor on the T (subway, for those of you who aren't from Boston) wanted to see my broomstick.

Anyhow, we made it to the theatre, and that's when things went wild.  The costumes people had were beautiful.  We had two Lucius's, a Sirius, and a slut!Ginny, plus many other random witches, and me.  We stood outside and quacked at the Duck Tour.  I danced with my broomstick on the sidewalk (you have to have been there).  I had brought an extra wand, so there was some dueling.  One of the Line Party people actually came up to me and asked, "Hey, don't you write Eclipse?  I love that fic!"  It was so cool!  Another person had read my one-shot, "Sincerely, Harry Potter."  Massive coolness.  Anyway, we all interacted with people on the sidewalk.  I had more people come up to me than anyone else, just because of the costume.  They wanted to see the wand, hold the broom, and have their picture taken with Harry.  Finally, it began to downpour, so we went inside.

Back in the theatre lobby, "Ginny" and I started a game of Quidditch, between two seekers, using one Snitch.  Basically, we played catch, tossing the Snitch clear over the heads of the people in the lobby.  I'm pretty athletic, so we put on quite the show.

A bit later, some poor little kid lost his balloon on the ceiling of the lobby, between the inner and outer entrance doors.  "Lucius" was trying to bat it down with his pimp cane, but that wasn't working.  So, "Harry" to the rescue.  I climbed onto a small ledge, looked at the guy next to me, and said, "Leg up?"  He gave me a boost, I grabbed the next higher handhold, and caught the balloon off the ceiling.  That whole thing actually got a round of applause.  The father of the child who'd lost the balloon (who was oriental) actually bowed to me formally, which I returned.  It was quite the little scene, and is now a fond memory.

The Quidditch game resumed, this time, out in the middle of the Boston Commons.  It involved several people around the outside throwing the Snitch, playing "keepaway" from the two Seekers in the middle.  It actually turned into a great game.  My sister showed up (in high heels, no less) and joined in the fun for a while.  We all laughed and yelled and ran around and wore off some of our excess energy.

Finally, it was time to go in.  We lined up, got the best seats possible, and then we started playing around.  Even more people started asking me to pose in costume.  "Lucius" and I actually posed the scene from Flourish and Blotts from the CoS movie for a few people to take pictures.  I was joking around later, and pulled a Dementor-faint onto the floor.  I'm not sure who suggested to actually pose with our resident Dementor hovering over me, but it seemed like a good photo-op until it struck me as funny and I couldn't stop laughing.  So there I was, on the floor in front of the whole theatre, with a Dementor standing over me, and I was laughing like a lunatic.  I tried to stop, really.

They did the raffle drawing... now, I'd had my eye on this particular basket that had (amongst other things) the action figures of Harry and Draco with Buckbeak.  It's often referred to as the "Harry and Draco Bondage Set." I wanted it!  I stared at it.  I drooled over it.  I even mimed stealing it.  Well, Gatewaygirl (who wrote "Snakes and Lions") was there, and she was the one who won it.  Now, she's an awesome person, and I had a great time talking to her... and honestly, I don't begrudge her that she won it... really, I don't... Why don't you believe me?

Anyhow, the show started, and there was much SQUEE-ing and gushing over the slashy subtext.  The bunch of us were the loudest and craziest, and I loved every minute of it.  We stayed to the end of the credits.  It ended with Dan doing a voiceover:  "Mischief managed.  Nox."  Very cute.

Afterwards, we all walked to a diner, where we had much fun continuing to SQUEE over everything.  Can you imagine this:  A flock of about a dozen mismatched witches and wizards walking through the streets of Boston in the wee hours of the morning.  By the time we got to the diner, I suddenly realized I was exhausted.  I'd been riding so high that I hadn't realized I was sleepy and hungry, so I think I was actually starting to doze off at the table.  Oops.  Kinda reached my limit.

Anyhow, the rest is pretty much history.  Gatewaygirl (I don't know if she wants her real name posted) gave me a ride back to Brooke's place, which turned into a much longer incident because one of the other people who'd come with us was ill, and riding in the van just made her feel ickier.  So, the trip back was rather tedious, but she and I had plenty of time to talk fics and H/D.  It's so much fun when the fandom suddenly overlaps with real life!

So, thus ends my Line Party adventure.  I swear, I didn't think it was possible to have that much fun.  And if it's possible, I must question whether or not it's legal!  Everyone was so nice, and it was wonderful to be around people who are as crazy HP fans as I am.  Everything was great, and I can't wait to do it again.

Here are a couple of pictures I took during the event. I was actually so busy playing around that I forgot to photo-document everything. Can you blame me? Mariella sent me some more pics that she had taken, and I'll be sure to post those soon too. In the meantime, have fun with these!

All the early birds.   Just me being adorable, if that's possible.

And this was taken when I got home, just because I was feeling silly:

You have way too much fun. Honestly. You DID take pictures, didn't you?

The whole Harry-to-the-rescue! And the Dementor! And Lucius! How cool is that! I really wish people over in my neck of the woods were more excited about it. *makes plans to put something together for GoF*

Glad you enjoyed yourself, though. And people reckonized you! *loves* How cool is that! Well, not that it's hard to miss a Harry lookalike!

*hugs*

Hi!

I know how much you wanted the ... what did people call it? The Harry/Draco bondage set? ("Look! A collar and leash!" "That's for Buckbeak." "No, it's not!"), but I've promised people an S&L sequel when I'm done with Blood Magic. I believe this will prove inspiring....

Cheers,

Gg

*revives*

You know, I'm going to have to come visit you, JUST so I can stare at the action figures some more. LOL. Really though, no big deal. It was fun just to play up the fuss, really. :D

Oh, and Paige e-mailed me. Apparently, the only thing really wrong with her was lack of sleep, food, and water. (But we knew that, didn't we? *sigh*

Wow that sounds like so much fun wish I could do something like that. The premire was in Tasmania and I don't know any groups in Queensland.

Though now I do want to buy the action figures.

My housmate and I are seeing it in the Gold Class the night it opens I did think it would be wise if we could get the whole cinema as the last time we went the cinema was full and I think we annoyed people by making comments mainly of the slash/sarcastic variety

Love your review of the Party! Yay for slashy subtext! How did I miss all the H/D discussion? That's it, we'll just have to have another event wicked soon! Sorry you didn't win the basket with the H/D toys. You can get it at Target for $7.99, I swear. I wanted to give the baskets out to costume contest winners, but time slipped away from us. Wish I had a time turner! I'd take it back to the time I snogged Lucius. ;) You made the party totally fun! We'll have to hang out again, definitely!

If you want H/D discussion, my dear, all you have to do is stay within earshot of me! :D

I know I can get the toy at the store for not much money, but seriously, I don't really have that much money at all. I spent what little I had to spare to go the the Line Party.

Don't worry about the costume contest! It's really not a big deal. I'm just a born ham when it comes to stuff like that. I also had WAY too much adrenaline going, and was WAY overexcited. I'm glad people thought I added energy to the party, and that I didn't piss anyone off by being so excited. I couldn't help it! It was too much fun! (I think that's why I crashed so hard later, and almost fell asleep at the diner... I was so wound-up, and the moment I stopped, crash.)

We definately have to hang out again. So you have instant messanger, btw?
