Gay marriage.  Connecticut.  LEGAL.

Let the dominoes of the backwards hate-mongers come crashing down.

(Oh, and on a completely separate note... I fixed my Sonic Screwdriver.  MORE YAY!)

YAY! That's excellent news!

Although... I must admit, I don't really get why it has to be an individual state decision. Why can't it just be made legal in the whole country like it is here?

*doesn't really understand US politics*

Cause of I have the memory of a gnat, I can't remember if this has already been presented to the supreme court and they decided it was a state by state decision. But I do know there's parties out there that are trying to get the constitution amended to ban gay marriage.

I almost think it'll be safer to try to do this state by state. If they try to make it legal for the whole country, I really don't want it be shot down, and instead of 47 states where it's illegal, it's illegal everywhere.

Yeah. US politics suck.

The thing I love most about this is that Massachusetts, which has had legal gay marriage for years, has a lower divorce rate than any of the states that claim they are "defending marriage". The same folks will now prophecy dire consequences for marriage in Connecticut, and be just as stupidly and provably wrong.

\^^/ Thats awesome!

Sadly California's Gay Marriage is in jeopardy, if Prop 8 passes then it'll reverse the courts decision. SO ALL CALIFORNIANS NO ON 8!

Our question of the day going around the office: "what about (insert four couples here), do they have to get married, even though they're already civil-union-ized?"

then the lesbian still in the closet announced, "I don't really care about same-sex marriage," and we all shut it.

Yes, but once the sane people realize that the world won't explode if queers tie the knot, things will slowly become more accepted.

People acting sane and logical? That'll be the day.

*is worried about Prop H8te in CA* The most recent polls don't look good and fanatical people in all 50 states are sending their money here.

Yay for CT, though. Is there a residency requirement?

*sigh*

Haters sending money from outside of CA to help scare people into voting against Teh Gay? I'm not surprised. How bad are the polls looking?

And I don't know about residency requirements for CT. I haven't looked into it yet because I've already got my Civil Union from NH, and until I live somewhere that allows legal marriage for gay couples, it doesn't make any difference for me, sadly.

It's been flip-flopping. Things started off mixed, then they leaned 60% towards not passing the amendment. And now, with 24 million dollars being spent by religious conservative (against 14 million, I think it was)... the polls have flopped the other way with 60% supporting the proposition.

The ads here are awful because they aren't using the -real- reasons they oppose gay marriage. The tv ads are saying "get back at those 'activist' judges'" (who were Republican, btw *facepalm*) and the lawn signs are everywhere here with bright cheery blue and yellow stick-figure family of three with "Yes on 8."

Granted, I'm living in a much more conservative area of CA than I'm used to.... but this horrendous attempt to impose other people's values on a minority population is going to majorly fuck with my plans for my future if it passes.
