I should start at the beginning.

I finally found a LARGE Asian foods market in the convenient Kansas City area.  I bought all sorts of stuff.  I even found a mochi rice cake.  Nom nom!  And then... what do I spy?  Tapioca pearls!  I can has BUBBLE TEA!  Squee!

I bring home the tapioca pearls.  I follow the directions for cooking them while I brew a strong cup of tea so that I can cool it and then add milk and honey and ice.  Everything is going so perfectly.

Like an alchemist on the verge of a golden creation, I put my milk and tea mixture into a pre-chilled glass, add the tapioca pearls...

And realize that I have no straws that are big enough to suck up the bubbles.

MADE. OF. FAIL.

I'm going to go drink my tea and eat the bubbles with a spoon... but it's just not the same.

*sigh*

Yes! Bubble tea! It's a sweet tea beverage with big pearls of tapioca, which are the bubbles. Is yummy.

Heh yes, I saw the entry in wikipedia. But what are the bubbles doing in it? Is it for making it taste carbonated?

Nope; not carbonated. The bubbles are chewy.
