I'm not much for New Year's Resolutions.  They're stupid.  Seriously.  Either you're going to eat healthier, exercise more, stop smoking, drink less alcohol, drink more water, pray more, and recycle, or you're not.  WHATEVER.

However, the timing is right for me to make a resolution because this was going to be my next project anyway.

This is the year that I'll begin my original novel.  I was at the gym yesterday, and while I was on the treadmill, the plot was calling to me more clearly than it ever had before, even though it was already quite clear anyway.  I think I might have to make this into a trilogy.  It certainly won't be COMPLETE this year, but I will begin writing in earnest.

I need to completely plot out the skeleton plot and do proper character sketches of all the major characters by the end of January.  10,000 words written by the end of February.

So, there you have it.  Time to write.  Maybe, just maybe, someone will see fit to publish this.  I think it could be good.

If this tells you anything, the plot hit me with the same level of "EUREKA!" sort of clarity that the plot of "Eclipse" hit me, and just that sense of knowing I had a good idea in the works.  I think I can do this...

So why are you still scanning smutmas and not starting your outline?

Those eureka moments are so exhilarating, aren't they? Good luck!

Good luck.

I want to make a start on my own story too and have even got a rather nice new journal. I need to be disciplined and do what you are doing (skeleton plate, character sketches) rather than just jumping in with both feet.

I look foward to you keeping us up-to-date on your progress.

What helped me when writing my novel. (which I still need to get published...sigh). Anyways, what helped was keeping a sort of 'log' while I wrote. I wrote down how many words I wrote each day/session. Some authors also put down what music they listened to while they wrote. It gives a small sense of accomplishment to write down you've wrote x amount of words for the day. Because the finished book accomplishment will be so far down the road.

You can definitely do this...

... and I'm so excited for you!! I love your writing and I can't wait to see what comes out of your head. And isn't it great when a story stands up and thwaps you and demands to be written? It's what's happened with my "Architects of Memory" -- it's more trouble to tell Harry and Draco to bugger off than to just sit down and write what they want.

Although I am sniffly that this probably means you won't finish the sequel to "Eclipse." But that's okay, I can just leave the boys where they were at the end.

Yay for you!

Wowza. Good on you! If you need an extra line-editor, or just a 'reader' (although I'm sure you have a ton of people who you know better who would prolly be better suited because of that) you can sign me up. In any event, good luck, and you have my dollar guaranteed when it goes on sale!

Good for you! Good luck with the book! It sounds exciting! I have a similar resolution, myself - maybe even this time I'll be able to keep it, as this year is going to be a different one for me.

Anyway, have fun writing, and in case you get published, don't forget to let us know! ;-)

Good luck! :) I know you can do it.

The "eureka" moments are always the best. I also love those moments where you're writing something and realise that it fits perfectly with some detail/plot point from earlier and why hadn't you thought of it earlier?
