It's almost 4:00 AM here, so I'm going to keep it short and sweet so I can go to bed before I collapse.
The line party was kinda dull because we were indoors, but they cut off the number of people who could go inside, so the line party was split up. Also, people around this area don't seem to get into the Cosplay as much, because the three of us (me as Harry, Fiona_Fawkes in her Slytherin Prefect outfit, and TJ as Tonks) were some of the most "amazing" costumes there. Seriously, there were hardly any other people in "full" costumes. Disappointing, but at the same time, it meant that a lot of people stopped us for photo ops and such.
Met a bunch of slashers! YAY SLASHERS!
And the movie itself... in short, I liked it a lot. I think they've made the best movie so far out of the worst of the books. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Now, however, I need to re-read the scene at the Ministry of Magic. *grins* No spoilers, but if you haven't seen it yet, consider that I'm quite picky and I really liked how they did it, for the most part. Of course, over the next couple of days, I'm sure I'm going to nit-pick dozens of things I wish they'd elaborated or done differently. And something at the end that I'm probably going to whine about in the morning... one particular line between Harry and Draco, and they cut it out! But overall... my initial impression of the movie was good.
G'nite!

Date: 2007-07-11 09:15 am (UTC)Also, WTF was with Bellatrix (doing something) to (somebody) that didn't actually happen in the books? And why not title the DADA books "Defensive Magical Theory" like it should be? Why "Dark Arts For Dummies" or whatever the hell it was?
In any event, I'm sad for no hot Luna/Tonks action.

Date: 2007-07-11 11:05 am (UTC)Well, I, too liked many things about the movie, espacially the characters. Luna, Bella, Tonks and Umbridge were all great, as were Snape and Lucius.
But Harry sort of ruined the movie for me. Honestly where was CapsLock!Harry from the book? Instead of shouting at Dumbledore and ruining his office, he just sat there looking moody. That scene was really bad. He was too calm the entire movie anyway. Except for a few angry scenes at the beginning, he reminded me of HBP Harry. And that doesn't make sense, because that detached adult manner he has in book 6 only comes after he has dealt with Sirius' death. Not before.
And it infuriated me that they cut the H/D scene from the ending. No "I'll have you." (I suppose that's the sentence you miss, too, right?) That scene would have been important to the plot, because Draco vows revenge and it clearly shows the difference between OotP Draco who ist still inferior to Harry and HBP Draco who is on the same level with him.
Also didn't like the Star Wars scene, when Harry tried to Crucio! Bella. "Come to the Dark Side of the force, Harry!" In the book Voldemort just wants to kill Harry, not persuade him.
All in all I must admit that I wasn't too happy with the movie. It had such a great beginning and middle, but the way they spoiled the ending was too bad. *sighs*

Date: 2007-07-11 09:04 pm (UTC)And now that it's the morning after, and I've had some sleep... I'm admittedly a bit miffed over the things they left out. Quite miffed. The scene between Harry and Draco at the end, the fact that Lucius went to Azkaban, Harry trashing Dumbledore's office (VERY important), the stuff they left out of the Ministry confrontation, the way the OWL's were supposed to be done, the important stuff with the centuars... yeah, a lot of stuff was glossed-over or ignored or summarized badly. *sigh* Maybe I'm lowering my canon expectations too much.
There were still plenty of things to adore. Luna was awesome. Grawp was better in the movie than the book. Umbridge was positively evil and I wanted to strangle her - just like in the book - perfect.
So... good and bad.
Oh! Question! What day will you be arriving in London for Sectus? I'm arriving the morning of the 16th, and I'm desperately trying to find someone with a car who knows the area. There's a walking tour group from the convention starting about an hour and a half after I land, and if I take public transportation, I'll NEVER make it. Do you know anyone with a car?

The movie was beautiful. Though they did cut out a lot of things that i wished they hadn't. oh well.
