Housewarming Party!
Sep. 17th, 2006 03:20 pmWe had a wonderful time at the housewarming party/HP meetup last night! It was a great group of people, only two of whom I'd actually met in person before. We technically had five guests, although we ended up with six. I had a person coming to pick up something I was selling on Craig's List, and he seemed like a pleasant sort, so I invited him to join us for some snacks, beer, and a bit of dinner. He seemed quite amenable to the idea, and was a pleasant addition to the party. (Poor guy actually looked exhausted, but he seemed happy for the home-cooking and friendly-but-silly company.) So, aside from Ned (the impromptu guest), we had
miraba,
xingou,
singlewoman,
anthimaeria, and
casey_cummings. Everyone seemed to mesh really well, and it was great to have a guy in the group! Adrian, you're awesome, you know that? Can we make you our official slash-boy mascott? We've got shiny handcuffs! *grins innocently*
So, what did we all do? We watched Oedipus, as reenacted by an all-vegetable cast. Quite entertaining. I managed to get at least two people interested in KKM. (Gods, I'm evil.) And there was much silliness and story telling and wine and beer and good food and more silliness. Oh, and somehow, we squeezed everyone except Ned onto my enormous beanbag chair for a picture, which Ned was kind enough to take for us. How did we fit six people onto one beanbag chair? Well, I'm waiting to get a copy of the picture, but in the meantime, you'll just have to imagine a big pile of fandom love.
Finally, casey_cummings, Miraba, and Anthimaeria had to leave, and I had to bring Ned back to his place with the cushions for the couch he bought from me, so we all said our goodbyes. Singlewoman and Xingou stayed the night.
Today, we had a pancake breakfast, almost ruined by the fact that the 100% natural maple syrup I procured from my sister's old apartment had somehow gone bad, but saved by the fact that I had a bag of frozen strawberries. Then, we did some decorating, went for a walk along the Charles River (beautiful day for a walk), and bought some rice cakes, dumplings, and other tasty tid-bits from the local Asian foods market. I love rice cakes. The dumplings are good, too. *sigh* Can I be Japanese? In the very least, can I learn to speak Japanese so that I can watch the rest of my anime series? *sheepish grin*
Either way, it was a lovely time had by all, and I can't wait to hold my next party. I'm getting another futon, so I'll be able to seat ten people comfortably, and to sleep at least six people. I hope to have some more small fandom gatherings here as the winter progresses. And anytime someone is in the Boston area, or just wants to come visit, let me know! Believe me, you won't leave hungry. :)

Date: 2006-09-18 01:19 am (UTC)And I'm glad he had a good time. I'm always worried that I won't be a good enough hostess or something. And that means you BOTH have to come over when you're in the area!

Date: 2006-09-18 01:14 am (UTC)Love the apartment, it is a great find and I am sure it will always be full of friends. Meeting new fandom friends is lots of fun, I'm just glad we didn't shock poor Ned too much.
Food was fabulous, I like my pancakes with strawberries, so I didn't miss the syrup at all.
Have fun at the Cape tomorrow.
*Hugs*

Date: 2006-09-18 01:21 am (UTC)I'm glad the food was good. I consider myself a bad hostess if anyone leaves hungry, or wishing the food was better. :)
Will definitely have fun on the Cape. This is my last chance all summer to get a tan! :D

Date: 2006-09-18 02:51 am (UTC)Maple syrup that has gone bad has to be one of the grossest things in the world. The fresh off the farm stuff is the best, too bad there is soooo much sugar in it *sigh*

Date: 2006-09-18 04:38 am (UTC)But fresh maple syrup - nothing better!

Date: 2006-09-18 09:52 am (UTC)I heartily second this! And I promise it will be fun when we tie you up to the spiral staircase. The bench is out, unfortunately, cuz it will be in use soon.~
XD I had so much fun this weekend. I can't wait to do it again. I am sure the coming weekend will be just as fun, though.
