Wands for sale! Yes, I've finally taken photos of the wands I've carved. Actually, my dear fandom friend and beta,
ice_is_blue, is staying with me, and she snapped the photos. Anyhow, here they are:

Click the photo for a link to my PhotoBucket account, where I have detailed pictures of all the wands, plus several unfinished wands that are in-progress.
Prices vary between $40 and $100, depending on the wand. I know that's expensive, but please understand the amount of time it takes to create each wand, to include finding a usable piece of wood, stripping, shaping, hand-whittling, detailing, sanding, slow-drying, re-sanding, staining, and finishing. These are NOT wood-turned. They're old-fashioned hand-whittled. Every single one will be different, so unlike the "every wand is unique" claim that you get from Alivan's and other wand makers, mine actually ARE unique. I'll discuss price details with people on an individual basis. I'll ship anywhere, but understand that the further you live from me, the more shipping will cost. I'll also be bringing quite a few wands to Lumos, so you can purchase them directly from me there.
If you want, I can also custom-design wands. For a custom wand, I'll need the following information:
- Type of wood
- Length of shaft
- Colour of stain
- Style of handle (including grip and end-design)
- Width of your hand from the base of your thumb to the base of your pinky. (That tells me how long the grip should be.)
I've had a few satisfied customers from in-person sales already. Feel free to pass this link on to your friends who are looking for wands!

Date: 2006-03-26 08:54 pm (UTC)I've just started creating custom charm bracelets with a HP theme: http://photobucket.com/albums/v737/puckNC/HP%20Charm%20Bracelets/ So far they're all for H/Hr folks, but I'm willing to do anything, HP-related or otherwise. I will donate a couple of general HP bracelets (Hogwarts houses, Trio, Marauders, etc.) and/or a bracelet to be custom-designed according to the winner's wishes. Drop me an email at theavidbeader AT gmail DOT com if you're interested.

Date: 2006-03-27 03:40 am (UTC)Let me say that I am one of her very satisfied customers. I bought two wands from her, one in cherry, slender with a finial at the end of the grip. The other wand, for my son, is maple slightly larger and longer, with a basic grip. We absolutly LOVE them. My son is a good wizard who sleeps with his wand by his bed. No he doesn't keep it in his back pocket, we don't want to risk losing a buttock!
When I bought the wands, Michelle had several other examples, all beautifully done. This wonderfully talented woman hand picks the wood, and all of the work, as Michelle said, is done by HAND. Do you know how rare that is these days? What she has is a gift.
Many thanks Michelle, not only for the wands, but for your writing and for your friendship.

Date: 2006-03-27 03:18 pm (UTC)Unsolicited Recommendation
Date: 2006-03-28 02:53 am (UTC)Glad to see you're gonna get to Lumos. Just not possible for me this year, I so wish I was going, I had a blast at The Witching Hour with you, Emma and various others. I'll expect one of you to call my cell phone and scream how much you all wish I was there...LOL.
The wands look great, awesome photos of your work. And I see you did get your scarf, wasn't sure until I looked at full sized pics. I'm hoping to get a web site up for my scarves in the very near future, we can pimp out each others wares once I do.
Re: Unsolicited Recommendation
Date: 2006-03-28 03:00 am (UTC)And yes, I adore the scarf! It's going to be interesting wearing it in the Las Vegas heat. And of course we'll call you! Send me your phone number. :D

Date: 2006-03-28 04:22 pm (UTC)Wood- would Willow be too soft for a wand?
length- 11?
colour- whatever looks best
style- I like the round grip with the round ends.
width- 3.5

Date: 2006-03-28 05:09 pm (UTC)Also, length refers to the length of the shaft alone, so it doesn't include the handle, just to give you an idea of what the finished product will actually look like.
I actually have a wand made of willow. (It was claimed by my sister, hence it's not pictured here.) It's softer than most woods, so you can't abuse it like you could a wand made of maple, so please be gentle with it. (Slamming it against the steering wheel of a flying car is not recommended. *grins*) The challenge will be finding a piece of willow thick enough, so it might take some hunting, but I can do it.
As for colour - do you like light or dark? Would you like a tint of a specific shade other than brown? Reddish (mahoghany, cherry, etc?), golden (oakish), or another colour? I can use any colour to create a very natural *slight* tint.
It might be a couple of weeks before I'll have time to go hunting for wood (busy this weekend), but I promise I'll go the weekend after next.
I'll keep you posted!

Date: 2006-03-31 07:21 pm (UTC)The wand that's fourth from the right is made of river birch, stained with a medium cherry tone with a hint of gold. The shaft alone is 10 inches with a very elegant taper, and the handle is proportionately longer than most of the others. It's got a lovely balance. The round part near the base of the handle was carved around a natural knot, which actually looks really cool. I completely forgot to position it with the knot facing up. I actually like that side better.
This one is $70.
I can also look up whirlwood and see what the deal is with that.
