WTF?

So I can post a really short note, but I can't most a moderate-length fic?  What the hell is going on here? 

I have tried multiple times to post approximately 5,000 words of fic in HTML format.  I keep getting an error.  But I can post THIS.

That's a known issue, though known by users, not told to us by LJ. It's not just fic -- anything with a cut and longer than some arbitrary length is just not going through, with the Web updater or with clients.

It is DDoS-related. :\

Aah. So, things that would normally post with no problem, such as fics with a mid-length word count and the standard LJ-cut, won't go through for now?

Options... options... AO3, if I wanted to. Dreamwidth - I could just suck it up and get an account. Or I could shaddup, be patient, and wait to post. It's not like fanfic is the most important thing in the world even though I like to think it is.

Honestly, I figure that redundancy is your friend -- I know that you can set up automatic cross-posts from DW to LJ, and you might be able to do it in reverse. But with the amount of fic and such that you post, seems like it'd be nice to have more than one site with it in case shit really hits the fan at whatever your primary journal is. Saves you trying to archive your journal at the same time that everyone else is, if nothing else.

Huh. I have a DW account but only use it for commenting. I hadn't thought of using crossposting as a way to back things up. That's a clever idea and I will have to look into it!

For me it's trickier because a) my fic is a chapter of a WiP and b) it is CYOA and so requires the use of a poll. I could post the text of the fic elsewhere and just link it, keeping the poll on LJ (polls work fine) but that's just too much trouble both for me and for anyone reading, I imagine. :|

I sure wish LJ would provide some kind of list of ongoing issues, maybe with tentative ETAs -- I realise the cleanup is massive, and they're still under attack, but they're not a charity, ffs.

ETA's would be nice, but for now, it's just hit-or-miss. I don't think they can even give ETA's because they don't know if any new shit is coming their way until it's already hit them.

Either way, I managed to get the thing posted. I'll deal with posting it to my comms another day. And I got a DW account, so I'll play with that tonight.

I posted mine before you'd posted yours. >.> They seem to have fixed whatever was causing the post operation to abort; I'm guessing they'd been forcing the servers to reject all requests above a certain size to blockade some of the worst malicious traffic.

Keep trying. When I posted my icon tutorial earlier this morning I had the same problem and I just kept refreshing until it took. I hope they get this fixed soon. I wanna read your fic!!!!

The cross posting feature at DW is really nice,sweetie. You can edit there and it goes out and makes the updates in the other journals for you. Plus, they have an import feature so you can bring everything over from your lj so you don't have to leave anything important behind. :)

Had this problem last night

After retyping it a few times ('autosaved draft' my ass! >:P) I cut-n-paste'd the main text and just kept trying until something got posted (took a total of 14 tries and 20 minutes). Then I kept editting it until it accepted everything I wanted (title, avatar, and mood, as well as a quick spell-check).

Took forever, but it did do it eventually.
