Summary: Christopher Pike wasn't supposed to be in Iowa, but there he was, weighing his future against scales that would never balance. Jim Kirk had given up on his future long ago. Leonard McCoy's past had been pulled out from underneath him, and he was ready to let his future go with it. Paths converge in the least likely places as three people realize that their futures are what they make of them.
Notes: First, for those of you who read my HP fanfic... sorry, this isn't that story. I... suppose I owe you peeps an explanation on that one. But yeah, Star Trek fic. Sorry.

Story is COMPLETE, but I'm posting in sections. I'll post the next one tomorrow.
Anyway, when I first saw the movie, there were a LOT of things that I felt needed more explanation and backstory to be believable. Some of the questions I needed to answer involved the scenes around the Riverside shipyard. Why the hell was someone of Captain Pike's status acting as an escort service for a bunch of cadet recruits? For that matter, what were a bunch of new recruits doing at a SHIPYARD in the middle of nowhere, not near any major ports of entry or other logical location? Why was the Enterprise being built on the ground instead of the San Francisco Orbital Shipyards? And so on. As far as I'm concerned, this is how it happened.
This fic can be read on its own, but it is part of the fanfic same universe I created in "And All the King's Men." Chronologically, "Convergence" takes place a few months before AAtKM.
