Meme - more than you wanted to know,
Nov. 24th, 2009 11:02 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So I've decided to play with the countdown meme. This is where I spill stuff that's possibly tl:dr, but hell, if you want to know something about me, then click the LJ cut.
10 things I wish I could say to people
1. You create your own reality, so stop trying to make it suck for yourself.
2. Goddamn, you're hot.
3. Stop treating me like an idiot. I'm smarter than you, and one of these days, you're going to piss me off, I'm going to make that fact blatantly obvious to everyone.
4. I love your sense of style. I kinda want to steal your clothes.
5. You're extremely clever, so give yourself more credit.
6. Your food and exercise choices are killing you, and that fact is making someone I love very upset. If you want to commit suicide by bacon, that's fine, but your choices are hurting someone I love, and that's un-fucking-acceptable.
7. Life is too short to sit back and hide, so grab life by the balls and run with it.
8. Stand up to your mother! You have the power to make your own choices in life.
9. Love yourself for who you are, and never apologize for that.
10. Strangely, I find myself nervous around you, like some sort of stupid high school crush, even though I don't actually have a crush on you. I think you remind me of someone I used to crush on, and that's why. Either way... uh... hi!
9 things about myself:
1. I think about things a lot more than you might expect.
2. To me, the story of humanity - our struggles, our triumphs, our emotions, our human interactions, our failures, our losses, our victories, and our joys - is the greatest story ever told. If I can capture a snapshot of that and share it with others, if I can make them cry or laugh with a story, if I can get people to stop for just a second and see something of themselves in a character or another person, then I'm happy.
3. I was the academic whiz, but I wanted to be a jock. I was stunned the day of my high school graduation, when the point guard of the Varsity basketball team came up to me to congratulate my status as Valedictorian, and confessed that she was jealous of my accomplishments and that she wished she could have done that. I just boggled, and confessed to her that SHE had accomplished MY high school dream by making the varsity basketball team. I never forgot that.
4. I love the stage. I want to sing and perform. I *know* I can sing well. And... I happen to have keys to an auditorium. When nobody is around, I go in there, turn on the spotlight, and sing and perform to an empty audience. I imagine a full crowd. There's a piano in there, and I play that, too. Yes, I love the spotlight and the stage, but I fear that I don't have the look a director would want, and after I didn't make the cut for the school play my senior year, I shied away from it. I sometimes feel scorn at myself for that.
5. I grew up too fast. I had no choice. After I got out of the Army, I made a grab for my childhood again, and I refuse to let go.
6. I have an over-active imagination. I'm always imagining something or other. That's a huge part of why I love cosplay. It gives me a semi-socially-acceptable outlet for essentially playing make-believe. I love it.
7. I want to be a hero.
8. I hate being told that I'm "cute." Yes, I know I'm short. Guess what - there are days when I really let myself believe that I'm 6'1", and I like that. I know I'm not, but I don't feel like I'm short, so why should I believe that? Listen, I'm not tiny, petite, "cute", dainty, delicate, or anything else that would indicate that I'm small and adorable like a puppy or some shit like that. I'm a trained Soldier, nothing scares me, and yes, I could probably twist you into a pretzel. Aren't you glad you didn't call me "cute"?
9. There are days that I feel like I'm 15, and days I feel like I'm 50. I usually only let people see the 15-year old personality.
8 ways to win my heart:
1. Be confident. Truly, deeply, self-assuredly confident in who you are.
2. Exude passion for life, and never apologize for it.
3. Have an interest. There has to be something that drives you, so dive into it and let the world see.
4. Be kind.
5. Have an innate sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around you.
6. Tell me a story.
7. Take care of your health. It's not about looks - it's about valuing yourself by taking care of yourself.
8. Be absolutely honest with yourself and to others.
7 things that cross my mind a lot:
1. My wife.
2. The state of the world around me.
3. Doing something extraordinary.
4. Plots for stories I'm writing.
5. My critters.
6. My career and future.
7. Coffee.
6 things I do before I fall asleep:
1. Walk the dog.
2. Brush my teeth.
3. Take out my contact lenses.
4. Check my e-mail.
5. Set the alarm clock.
6. Cling to my wife.

Date: 2009-11-24 09:01 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed reading all the items on your list. :D
I've never done a meme, purely because I am scared that no one would actually be interested in my rambles, or that I would have things worth saying. Why hallo there insecurities, how I have missed you. I might consider doing this one though. If I can think of enough things to say.

Date: 2009-11-25 02:42 am (UTC)I'm considering that meme. Will play later and see what I come up with.

Date: 2009-11-24 11:53 pm (UTC)You sing? I would never have guessed that! I used to be pretty good on the clarinet, but no one in my family can sing. But I can whistle! :)
I'm glad I've never called you "cute."
Oh, and thanks for inviting me to your Star Trek meeting!!! It was fun :)

Date: 2009-11-25 01:30 am (UTC)Yes, of course I can sing. Er... I can't tell if your comment was silly/sarcastic or not. Were you really not sure if I can sing? I've got a 3-octave range.
LOL - don't worry, I don't get angry when good friends call me cute. It's more of the "oh, you're so cute" attitude that some folks get about me appearing to be small and helpless and shit.
And you're welcome! I'm glad you had fun. Will you come to another one?

Date: 2009-11-25 02:34 am (UTC)We'll have another Trek meetup soon, I hope. You're definitely invited. And if you needed Benadryl, why didn't you ask? We have plenty. :D

Date: 2010-03-05 02:44 am (UTC)I've been to your top three places. They are, in fact, the ONLY three countries outside of North America I've been to for any length of time. Plane changes don't count, a handful of hours barely counts. :P
I *lurve* Green Day. I'm a '77 babe, and have siblings born before and after you. ;p
I love what you said about the story of humanity.
