Fanvid: "Wherever You Will Go" - George Kirk, Jim&Bones

I've never posted a fanvid before.  I don't really know how to make fanvids.  But damn, do I get ideas.  I had this one concept in my mind for months.  I had the music and several sequences of video clips from the movie floating in my head.  I just had no idea how to turn it into a fanvid.

Then kimuracarter  showed me a Doctor Who fanvid she'd made, and told me it was her first and only fanvid.  It was REALLY good.   So... I decided to mention my idea for the Star Trek fanvid.  And she liked it. 

For the past week or so, she's been working on editing while we've bounced ideas back and forth.  I described vid sequences that I'd already had in mind.  She created other sequences.  She came up with this one brilliant sequence that defined the entire storyline of the vid, and we edited and cobbled concepts together around it.  She did all the actual vid editing herself, but this was a creative collaboration, and I'm beyond thrilled to have been a part of it. 

And when I saw the final product, it brought tears to my eyes.  Give it a watch.

Concept Summary:  George Kirk's dying wish is that when he's gone, someone will be there to watch out for his son.  In a last ditch act of hope, he sends out a message:  "Take care of him. - G. Kirk"  So close to a temporal anomaly, the message arrives years later - to a startled, reluctant, but loyal Leonard McCoy.

You know what...I like it! Very nice bit of storytelling. The girls watched the movie late last night and it makes sense. :)

Thanks! It's this idea I had months ago... and I just wanted to see it brought to life. kimuracarter is very new at making fanvids, but she's a natural talent with it, and I'm just delighted that it came out so well, and that now I can share this idea with other people! :D

I like it! I hadn't taken that interpretation on this song but now I don't think I can hear it any other way. The sequences go well to the music too. I some are so perfect (the end bit, the running and the beginning with George) that I'm sure they're the parts you were envisioning.

I have the same problem with fanvid ideas, by the way, not enough talent/experience to put my vision together! It's really cool that you found someone collaborate with.

LOL... I have corrupted your mental model of this song! My victory is complete! But honestly, I heard this song one day, not long after watching the movie (one of the many times I watched the movie), and the concept for the vid just formed in my mind. I'm just grateful that I found someone talented enough to turn the idea into a real vid. And I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!

Totally amazing from start to finish. I hope the new movie, when it comes, provides us with some more Bones and Jim clips to be altered into wonderful videos like this. :D

LOL - no, I'm not at all surprised - by the quality or creativity - just grateful that I caught it since I'm terrible at keeping up with LJ when I have so many fannish projects going on! Between zine art projets, my fics and a fast approaching deadline for my Revelcon vid, I don't have much time to keep up. : (

*grins* I completely understand being too busy. I'll sometimes miss huge amounts of material on my flist because I'm just too damned busy, and once I've got time to read anything on my flist, it seems insane to try to go back as far as skip=300 to catch up.

Do what you need to do, bb, and come back to fandom when you have time. ♥
