I feel like crap.  I'm in a fair bit of agonizing, nauseating pain discomfort.  The fever is down for now, but who knows how long that will last.  Everything aches.

And I want fanfiction.  I want schadenfreude.  I want to take pleasure in the misery of a fictional character, or the co-misery.  Whatever.  I want my characters suffering.  Please let them be fixed and healthy by the end, for I do not believe I could handle death!fic in my current state of mind, but please give me fics where my favorite characters are going through physical hell.  Injuries, illnesses, alien STD's... whatever.  One-shots are okay, but medium-length to longish fics would be amazing.

I've gone hunting through Delicious bookmarks.  I've gone through recs lists.  I've read some, but I'm not finding enough.  Please rec me your favorite fics that involve one or more of my favorite characters suffering more than I am now.

HALP???

Have you read [livejournal.com profile] classics_geek's Kirk/McCoy stories? There's three of them finished, all multipart, and all create a larger story arc.

Oh yes, of course I have! She's my beta reader, I've done some beta-type feedback for her, and she's one of my most awesome buddies that I've met thus far in the ST fandom. Oh yes, the Fingerprints arc is quite good, quite addictive, quite angsty. I love her writing style, and if I hadn't just re-read them recently, I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

It's an awesome suggestion though!

And yes, I'm still poking through your recs list, too.

I don't have a rec, but if you want to read a section or two of my Epic Evil Fic of Doom that is unfinished/unedited/no grammar/medically wrong where I make Jim sick and later try to kill him in a shuttle crash you are welcome to it. I have to finish my Anthology fic first though that is due in, oh in a few hours. *face palm*

That might be an awesome read, actually. Just what I'm looking for!

(Oh, be warned... I'm working on a fic right now - a sequel to AAtKM - that involved a shuttlecraft crash, so... when I finally post it, please don't think I stole your idea!)

Can you e-mail me the fic?

Hi:

I don't know if you read HP at all, but I recently read an angsty H/D that might fit the bill *g*

I don't know if you're familiar with [livejournal.com profile] frayach work; she's a relatively new author to me, but she's been in fandom for quite a while. Anyhow, she has a new fic called Nobody's Ever Died Of A Broken Heart (http://frayach.livejournal.com/26457.html#cutid1)

The fic is one of the most honestly wrencing portrayals of grief I've ever seen; when it begins, Draco has died, although the death scene is certainly not focused on extensively. It follows Harry through his journey to come to some sort of terms with the tragedy and rebuild a semblance of his life. It's the best thing I've read in ages! Hopefully, you'll feel better soon.

Hey there - I was in the HP fandom (writing and reading) long before I was in the Star Trek fandom. H/D shipper, too. I know frayach, and I've read some of her stuff. She's good, but I really don't want a death-fic right now, even the mourning. Just... not what I can handle at the moment.

But thank you - I'll keep the bookmark for another time. :)

Ack! I have no fic recommendations (not right off the bat. I'll check my bookmarks when I get home), but I'm sending "feel good" vibes in your direction! Is this from the same issues earlier, or a whole new sickness?

Edited to note a stupid moment: Actually, when you said "I want sick!", the first thing that came to my mind was "I KNOW A GREAT ONE, IT'S CALLED PERSPECTIVES BY -- . . oh. wait."

Thanks, sweetie. *hugs* The same old issues are still hanging around, but they seem to have been joined by a new set of issues. Basically, yeah, feeling like crap.

And... that's really amusing. *grins* Good to know my stuff comes to mind for people to rec! It's a huge compliment. The biggest compliment, really, to be recced. ♥

I read two stories today that I quite liked:

This one (which is a nice, rather bittersweet between-scenes story) and this one (which is smutty). Jim/Bones, naturally.

*goes digging through backlog*

Unspoken by [livejournal.com profile] d8rkmessngr is kind of painful in places (it's been a while since I read it, but I recall a torture scene, and some miscellaneous injuries) but it ends well. Also, it's longish.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. *hug* But I hope you'll be feeling better long before then.

Novel-length fic by [livejournal.com profile] slashpervert and [livejournal.com profile] aveeno_baby; apparently, they're really not happy unless the story begins with Harry being broken on a rack, and then undergoing tortures that make him want to return to the rack.

Slashpervert's masterlist of fic; Blind Beauty is very good. (So are the rest, but that's the one that comes to mind as a specific rec right now.)

I don't often pimp myself, but I just posted a short fic that might fit the bill. It is rather darker than my usual fare - but if you are looking for character abuse, it has it in droves. It's Trek (Kirk& Spock and other).

http://fee-folay.livejournal.com/10109.html

I also have a longer TOS h/c piece on my LJ.

Feel free to drop by... if reading about suffering characters will make you feel better, I am happy to offer my services. :)

P.S. I haven't forgotten my promise to read and comment on Al the King's Men. I've been dabbling in it all week and am almost done (which is actually why I dropped in and saw this post.) Will comment soon!

And seriously, I have no problem with people self-reccing. Honestly, I wish people with good fics would be MORE willing to self-promote. If you know your stuff is good, or it fits a genre that someone wants to read, don't hesitate to share! Do you have the link to the longer TOS h/c fic?

Oooh... I hope you've been enjoying the read. I can't wait to hear what you think of it. :)

I hope you're already feeling better, but anyway, when I read your post I remembered this fic I was reading the other day called Love Like Ghosts (you've probably already read, but I enjoyed it so much that is worth repeating, I I think, LOL).

(Bones said, “Ya know that story? The one where Pike meets Kirk and there’s mentoring and bonding and they tiptoe through the tulips together into happily ever? Well, this ain’t it. Idiot.” Pike/Kirk, but mostly McCoy/Kirk.)

I recommended your fic "In Perfect Trust" for a friend and she, like me, loved it with passion. In fact, I just read "And All the King's Men", so, when I overcome the awesomness that is your story and stop drooling, I'll leave a comment = D
