I adore that woman.  She is my new hero.  I don't know her, I can't see her face, and I'll never meet her, but DAMN.  She is made of epic win.  An Iranian Rosa Parks.  Balls of steel indeed.

Absolutely. I just don't understand why somebody felt the need to 'enhance' that gesture with a non-culturally-relevant add-on.

Because that's what people do. But the sentiment is still there. I can ignore the photoshop part in favor of recognizing the sentiment and the courage that woman expressed.
