Yes, I know, I've not been around. I haven't looked at my f-list in days. Maybe weeks, I don't know. I haven't posted. I just started a new job (which is fantastic, btw), have been working on the new house (which needs a LOT of work), making a new garden (which isn't dead yet), and trying to do SOME wand carving before summer hits (*cries*). I feel like the worst person in fandom due to sheer non-existence. I'm almost afraid that I'll get to Terminus, and everyone will have forgotten me. *sigh* Anyway...

The Programming Table for Terminus is public. I finally know when I'm going to be presenting, and… shit, this is a lot of stuff. Just for my own sanity, can you take a look at what I'm presenting, when I'm presenting it, and IF you're going to Terminus, PLEASE tell me which ones you might/will attend. Thanks.

Okay, so this is a LOT of stuff. When I sent in my submissions, I did NOT expect them to accept all of my proposals. I expected two, MAYBE three. And not only did they accept all FIVE, but they've got me scheduled for TWO SESSIONS of a 90-minute presentation. I know this is going to sound pathetic, but… I want to attend some presentations by OTHER people too!  I really didn't expect to have so... MUCH.  *flail*

I'm going to ask if I can get out of one of the Sadistic Authors presentations. If they let me… which one should I get out of? Friday or Sunday? Look at the overlaps, and tell me what you think. Also, if you want to attend Sadistic Authors (which is NOT just about Sadomasochism, but ALL forms of character torment), please tell me which one you might attend. I'd try to drop the one that has less potential attendance.

Anyway, here's a partial list of the presentations that I want to attend:

FRIDAY

- Warner Bros. v. RDR Books *OR* Censorship in Fandom
- From Rivals to Romance: H/D fanon/canon (furiosity, Saber ShadowKitten)

SATURDAY

Waaaaay too many that I want to attend in the morning. Which ones are you attending?

- Fandom and LJ Changes
- Acting Improv and Writing workshop
- Lockhart Paradox
- Goodnight, Sweet Prince
- Draco Malfoy roundtable
- No Place to Stand
- Writing Character Voice
- Slytherin Royale
- Was Draco Redeemed?
- Fanfic Reading: Draco Malfoy and the Heart of Slytherin

SUNDAY MORNING:
- Queering of Dumbledore (all, I think)

SUNDAY AFTERNOON:

There are four things I want to see all at the same time:
- Wanking and Wanking Off
- Fanart and Cosplay
- Spare the Rod
- Geovicki's AS/S roundtable

There are also things I want to see during some of my own presentations. *sigh* Can't have it all, I suppose.

So, tell me… what are you planning to attend?

You forgot ONE: Saturday, 2PM:

“Death isn’t the handicap it used to be,” or How to Use the Harry Potter World to Your Advantage in Fanfic
[livejournal.com profile] dacro, [livejournal.com profile] djin7
In a world where you can kill people with a swish and flick of a wand, you certainly should be able to do the opposite. Get ready to explore how to resurrect your favourite characters, or at least find ways to keep them around a while longer, using magical options (both canon and fanon)—from portraits to phoenix tears, time-turners to ghosts. Uncover the time-honoured tradition of clichés, compare the Harry Potter universe to other fandoms where death is hardly a problem, and participate in a brainstorming session to Ennervate the creative nerve center.

I'd say that was a pretty big overlap. :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! *cries*

I don't have a printer, and wanted to print out the schedule because I was having a hard time visualizing. I can't believe I missed that.

*cries more*

Had you planned to come to the H/D one I was doing?

I had planned on attending most of yours, yes. :( I was eyeing up that Slytherfen one, too. (Aja)

I am happy with our slot, though - if it had been a morning one, I would've been upset. I guess we can't all get what we want, eh?

Dood. That....sucks. Can't guarantee I'll be there. The girls will have to drag me outta bed for that one. And you don't want me there unless I've had at least two, no-three, coffees. *nods*

I'm tempted to bring my good coffee with me, seeing as I'm taking the train and I can get away with it. Join us in our room for caffeination rejuvenation. :D

It still sucks that we overlap. *le sigh*

Yes, I do. You'll be like the Mad Scientist, making your concoctions, and I'll be Bugs, floatin' down the hallway by my nose, trying to find my coffeeeeeee.

Yay, you're alive!

I'll have to sit down tomorrow and make a semi-permanent schedule of what to attend, but for now: all of your presentations except for the first "Sadistic Authors" on Friday ("Writing in the Margins" sounds too tempting). Hope this is at least minimally helpful.

Cheers!

Well, supposedly I'm doing two presentations of "Sadistic Authors", so maybe that one too, yes? :D

But... yay! I'll have an audience! *gives you a front-row seat*

I actually want to attend Writing in the Margins, too. The "overlap" lists I wrote in this post are the things that I personally want to see, but won't be able to attend. Take notes for me, yes? Record it, maybe?

Date: 2008-05-13 07:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tavi-b.livejournal.com
Well, I definately one to go to at least one of the two.

Yay for front-row seats! Will try to get there early. :)

Was about to offer taking notes for you, then read to the end. I can do pretty decent note-taking, and will see about recording (not sure if I'll be able to bring any recordable devices or not). You mind if the notes are in several handwritings?

She's Alive!!!! Yes we miss you. Glad the job is going well. Like fandom could ever forget you???? I really wish I was going to Terminus, you know I would attend most if not all of your presentations (unless there was the opportunity to get a lick of some fan-boy ::wink::)

I've been equally bad about posting myself. Lots going on here... some very good, some bad... coping with it all. I'll post this week now that things have quieted down.

Hugs to you and Fi

I'll keep an eye out for you post. I ought to post more often. Yes, I DO often wonder if fandom will forget about me while I'm not looking.

Don't laugh at me, but a big reason that I wanted to go to Terminus before I found out some of my flist was going was because of your reading Eclipse. That is one of my all time favorite DM/HP fics.

That said, I'm taking the train up from Joliet on Friday, so if I can get there on time, I'd go to your 10a.m. presentation (I'd actually like to get to the one right before yours too, but not sure I can get there by 9).

I expect I'll go to your Missing Years one also. I'm going to be torn between Sadistic Authors and Writing in the Margin - I just don't know yet...seeing I'll already be going to several of yours, I might have to skip SA (but I really like the subject matter!)

And likewise, I'm torn between Next Great Adventure and Death on Saturday at 2. I'll be leaving Sunday morning, so the rest of Sunday is out.

When is Fandom and LJ Changes scheduled? I think I'm blind - I can't find it.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, especially Eclipse.

From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Oh wow... I'm... er... *blushes* I hope I can deliver an adequate reading to live up to your expectations! *wibbles*

By the way, what scenes would you like to hear? I submitted FAR more than I could read so that I could poll the audience, or at least decide later. I've got 50 minutes in which to try not to bore the audience.

Oh, and Sadistic Authors is NOT just about BDSM. It's actually about ALL the ways we torment our favorite characters. For example, look at all the stuff I've done to Harry. In my fics, he's been stabbed, had an infected stab wound, bleeding laceration, concussion, dehydration, hypothermia, broken ribs, broken glass through his hand, a curse that kills him slowly, and at one point, I've even dropped a roof on him. Oh yeah, and more Cruciatus Curses than I can count. That's all BEFORE I start tying him up, spanking him, flogging him, and whipping him. The round table is actually about the psychology of authors who WRITE such horrific torture of our most beloved characters. How many fics have you read where your favourite characters were severely hurt (in many fics, it's central to the plot), and loved every minute of it? How often does JKR torture her own characters? The question of the hour will be, "Why do we do it, and why do we like it so much?" I'm kind pissed that the Terminus people put it in the "sex and sexuality" section. It's got very little to do with that.

Anyway, think about it. I can't wait to meet you there!

Boy - if I could choose the passages....of course, Ch 1 is what grabs you from the start, when Draco stabs and captures Harry. Draco changes so much from the beginning, I always think it's the best place to start.

Ch 6, the scene when Draco had to cast the Cruciatus on Harry always got to me, and of course, in Ch 16 when Draco and Harry dance right before Harry starts to fade, and then Draco kissing Harry after Harry is non-responsive. (I'm going to start crying if I keep thinking about that chapter!)

Your SA description is making the choice that much more difficult; it's exactly the type of topic I'm interested in, especially as a writer who loves to abuse Harry - I always wonder why? And I'm not the only one who does it. I'd never condone abuse to a RL person, but a fictional character is not problem for me - usually.

And as far as your being forgotten in fanfiction - NEVER! You have a classic with Eclipse, a fic that will be forever rec'd. (You want to cause a commotion - just try pulling it off the web and see how fast you're remembered ;-)

Distance. :( I'm seventeen and living in Alberta, Canada. The only con I've been to is the annual Animethon, because it's in Edmonton, which is about a half-hour bus ride from my house. (I am determined to go to more cons when I have the resources, though! D:< <--determined face)

I'm going to [livejournal.com profile] geoviki's roundtable, for sure! :D

...that good coffee sounds good, too. Perhaps I can bring some bags of coffee as an offering. :D
(Organic and Fair Trade, of course)
I just got some great 30th anniversary coffee from the Santa Cruz Roasting Company. Thirty years!
Born in the late seventies like me. :P

*wibbles* No, I'm not an icon. Not by a long shot. I wrote a fanfic a long time ago, and I'm constantly amazed that people are still reading it and loving it. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that I'm not forgotten.

And coffee is ALWAYS a good offering! SQUEE!

So, you'll come to some of my roundtables? :D
