So, the time is coming up fast.  Plans are in place.  Apartment is cleaned out.  Trailer hitch is installed and U-Haul is reserved.  (I'm kinda excited about towing the trailer... something I've never done before.)  Loose ends have been tied up with the Army.  Friends have been visited.   Timeline has been established.  Boxes are packed.  Stops along  the way have been set, and a route has been outlined.  This is REALLY HAPPENING.

I'm a bit stressed, I'll admit.  I'm afraid of things going wrong, or that I'll forget something important - not like forgetting to pack an item, but forgetting to take care of a loose end that I need to handle immediately.  And this is a HUGE change for me.  I'm quibbling over new career paths, and plans for the summer.  I still need to reserve my plane tickets to London for Sectus, which I'd previously held off until I knew if I'd been flying out of Kansas City or Boston.  And while this is what I want, more than anything, it's still a bit scary.  Just such a big change.  My girlfriend is definitely worth it... more than worth it.  (Have I mentioned lately that I'm definitely in love?)

Well, I'm nothing if not independant and adventure-seeking, so this is just a big adventure.  Right?

Now, on another note... I've got almost my whole route set.  I was going to stay in Connecticut the first night, because I'll be leaving New Hampshire a little bit late on the 4th (I need to actually load the trailer on Friday morning), but the person with who had invited me to stay has a wedding shower to attend, and she's in the wedding party.  She had totally forgotten about it when she made the offer.  SO, I need a place to stay on Friday night, somewhere between Connecticut and the eastern part of Pennsylvania.  If you want to see that part of my route, use Google Maps to get directions from Hartford, CT to Scranton, PA.  I need to make some distance that day from New Hampshire, but I don't think I could make it any further than Scranton PA, at the absolute FARTHEST.

Er... does anyone live in that area?  Anyone who'd like to have a friendly, Hobbit-like creature and her pet snake spend the evening?  I'll bring homemade chocolate chip cookies!  :D

slashcast and fic

Greetings!

I've just started listening to slashcast and caught the one where you discussed gen/slash fic. So much of what you said was incredibly engaging for a scholarly nerd fan such as myself. My reply to your thoughts and some of your LJ entries is: yes. Thanks for your thoughts and being a progressive member of the fandom.

As a side note, your story Eclipse is one of my favorites. I didn't even connect your username with that fic until I noticed some other comments. A doubly impressive fan.

Hopefully you won't mind if I add you as a friend. There are so many posts I want to comment on, opinions to voice!

Well greetings and salutations to you, too! I'm glad you enjoyed the slashcast. I was so nervous when I did it... I hate being recorded. I love to talk in front of a crowd, but recordings... feels different. And that's really funny that you didn't connect the screen names between my LJ and "Eclipse" right away. It happens, sometimes. I find it amusing. I'm also a bad author because I'm sitting on the sequel right now, and doing everything else in the world except writing it. Been so busy, you know?

And feel free to add me as a friend. May I add you back? Also, do you have Yahoo messenger? I'm jedi_mijan on there, and often online, in invisible mode. :)

I always get really goofy on recordings. I try to tell jokes to the mic and it takes forever and ends up not being funny. You sounded find, especially considering you had nobody to counterpoint with. I'm glad there is a podcast with things like it.

I'm only on AIM, and rarely. >.< It's sazma529 if you ever join up.

KKM makes life 50% more amusing. Seriously great stuff. We're both members of [livejournal.com profile] kyou_kara_maou! The show is the best shonen-ai around because it is so hilarious on purpose. The characters are just... yes!

Hehehe... it's like a Harry/Draco AU crackfic. It's perfect. And the ending was absolutely awesome. It was like QUALITY crackfic. I was impressed. Have you seen my KKM art?

I will look at it, I will look at it soon.

The ending was something I told other people about the next day. It was the perfect blend of conclusion with opportunity for imagining. Almost as if they wanted to encourage fandom fun while not torturing us with hanging issues.

Do you want there to be an OVA for the universe now?

OVA? What's that?

And yes, the ending was definitely the perfect blend of conclusion and open-endedness. They definitely did it for fandom fun. :D I was squeeful.

All the fangirls would agree! My best friend is a straight guy and even he loved that show. The crack humor makes him giggle every episode.

The problem is that there isn't much good fanfic because crack!fic is kind of hard to pull off. The stuff I've seen is mostly bad crack!fic smut.

Oh, and if not instant messenger, does the idea of fandomer phone calls freak you out? Or would you be okay with that? I call fandom people all the time, so I'm not wierded out by it, but I know some people don't like to give their number to strangers. (I'm not a stranger, I'm just strange.)

If you're interested, I'm just doing some cleaning, and I would love to chat. You're in the USA, right?

I'm in the US! I live in Seattle, Washington right now. I've never done the fandom phone call thing but I'm willing to give it a try. Debate such. Right now I'm going to my friends place to write a fic.

I'll post my number in a friends lock post later. That way everyone has access.

Hehehe... cool. If you send me an e-mail to jedi_mijan@yahoo.com, I'll send you a reply with my phone number, so you can call me first, if you'd prefer. Yay for unlimited nighttime minutes and long-distance on cell phones. I've got Cingular. You?

I'm a T-Mobile yokal myself. I don't know what my plan says about long distance (I forgot that part!) so I'll have to ask.

Have you ever been tempted to just do round table podcasts? Starting a pod cast sounds like a lot of work, but I don't have the cash to fly out to Prophecy for a panel discussion. I'd like some debate of topics with a group, even if I can't see their faces.

I dunno. I think a lot of the panels will be podcast. I'm participating in one with Emmagrant and Fiona_Fawkes, and running a round table about characterization of canon characters in slash fics. Dunno if either will be podcast. Hmmm. Maybe I can ask Emma.

And pretty much every cell phone has free long distance.

Podcasting is something I should have gotten into the minute my iPod showed up in the mail. It only occurred to me after I ran out of audio books. It's so relaxing to just listen to discussions and NPR news on the bus instead of just stare at homeless people sleeping.

The characterization in slash is one of my biggest issues with the genre. It's worse than with SGA fic. My simple rule of thumb is: If the names were taken out, could you tell who each character was? The flip side of that is caricatures, but I feel it's better to over do it than not at all.

Squee! You're a Stargate fan too! *grins* I like you already. Although I'm more of an SG1 person.

SG1 and Atlantis, it's all Stargate love. Both have super adorable geeks who who want to eat up with spoons.

Are you much of a Battlestar fan? BSG re-imagined, of course.

Never quite got into Battlestar Gallactica. I wasn't around much when it was on, and tried to jump into the storyline too late.

Gotta love the uber-adorable geeks. Jack/Daniel. Daniel/Jack. It's a match made in heaven. Or... Abados. Or... a whiskey distillery?

John/Rodney, FTW!!!

Both pairings often fall victim to the "aliens made them do it" plotline that is recreated on HP with the "potions made them do it" plotline. Heh.
