New York, New York, here we come!

This seems to be the year that it will FINALLY happen.  Every other New Years Eve, SOMETHING has prevented us from getting to New York.  Some years, it was work.  Last year, my grandmere died on December 28th, and my sister and I had just gotten back home (with me recovering from a very nasty flu), and my mother was stuck on the Canadian border on her way home, so we weren't even together for the holiday.  This year, however, my sister is here (back from grad school in England), my mother has both December 31st AND January 1st off from work, and my company is on holiday break.  So, we're doing Times Square for midnight... we hope.

My sister is checking hotels in the area, but it's more fun to stay with friends.  Is anyone in the New York area willing/able to provide couch/floor space for two Elves and a Hobbit?  Or more precisely, my mother, sister, and myself?  My sister actually has someone else she can stay with, so if you have space for just two people, that would be awesome, too.  Oh, and my mother is completely cool about slash, gayness, and pretty much everything, so fear not the parental presence.  She knows all about... well... me and my hobbies, and she thinks it's fine.

So... any takers?  Is there any room at the inn?  *makes puppy eyes*  I'll bring slashy goodness!

Alright, cool, I'm glad. Yeah, I read Eclipse awhile back and since then I've been following your LJ. You know, the thing is, I would like to connect in NY? But I don't think my family would be too cool with it...they're not so understanding of the whole "meeting people from the internet" thing. ^^;; Thanks for the offer though, I'll keep it in mind if I happen to be in your area again.

Ah yes, some families are more cautious about that than others. The New York area meetup group consists of so many people that have met so many times before that it's about the safest group you could imagine. We've even got a mother/daughter combination, although they've been busy lately. My mom has met some of my fandom friends, and she likes them. I've met many of these people at official conventions and stuff, too. But yes, I understand why your parents might not be so keen on it. Mind if I ask, how old are you?

Er- 17, 18 in about two weeks. So basically, old enough to know my own mind, not quite old enough to do anything about it. xP

Damn. That close to legal adult status, and you can't meet up with other HP fans? *sad*

Have you checked out the NYC HP Slashers group?

Those are the people I meet up with in the NY area. (Although I don't know the person who posted last.)

I know! The only people I've met from the internet were at conventions, and if I mention them to my parents I have to say "So, these people I met at the convention..." because if I say "These people I met on the Internet..." they'd freak out. However, I think I know what you look like from pictures you've posted on your LJ, so if I see you in the huge crush of people on New Years, hey, it was meant to be, right? =P

I didn't know about that, thanks for the link!
