I haven’t stopped once since Sunday night. Actually, I haven’t stopped since the weekend before last, but who’s counting? Anyhow, I’ve had a fantastic whirlwind week, and it all started with a "Harry and the Potters" concert on Sunday night. Take a peek at my week, and you’ll see why I haven’t been online yet to even WRITE about it!
So, I had my Army drill over the weekend. (In other words, I didn't have the weekend off. Awake at 4:30 on a Saturday morning is NOT how I like to spend my time.) It was busy, as always, but unlike most drills, I actually had a good time. The regional commander (one-star General) knows me personally – he used to be an Engineer officer, so we're in the same branch – and he seems to like me. We chit-chatted for a while. And I got to see some of the other people that I actually really like in the regional HQ. And I discovered that one of the old Lieutenant Colonels from my section is really 100 times cooler than I thought he was. Oh, and to top it all off… two great pieces of news.
1. My Officer Evaluation Report was very positive. In other words, I'm doing a great job as far as the Army is concerned, my records are fine, and I'm tracking.
2. I spoke to one of the JAG officers. Great guy. Fairly liberal, free-thinker, been in the Army for 11 years, and he wants out as much as I do. Anyhow, he sympathizes with me, and he gave me some vital information. Based on my records to date, if I play the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" card, I get out with an Honorable Discharge. Yes, I can get out. Now, I just need a "life change" to make this believable. Hey, any hot chicks out there want to be my official girlfriend?
After drill was over, and I was already in a fairly good mood, I get home and check my e-mail. Lo and behold, I've got a note from fiona_fawkes, telling me that there was a "Harry and the Potters" concert somewhere in my hometown. My initial reaction was, "Holy shit! But… it can't be at the
The show was great. Well, most of it was great. There was this little 7-year old boy who took the stage with this kid-sized guitar and screamed into the microphone for several minutes. All I could do was plug my ears and tell myself not to climb up onstage and kill him. It was bloody awful. But, he finally shut up. Note: I don't care how young or cute you think your kid is. If he SUCKS, don't let him perform!
But the rest of the concert was a blast. "Draco and the Malfoys" performed, and the "Whomping Willow", and "The Remus Lupins", and a band called (I think) "Jason and the Best". They didn't seem to have anything to do with Harry Potter, but they were good! And then, "Harry and the Potters" performed. All the bands have improved since the last time I heard them, and the concert was a lot of fun. I ran into some of my old friends from the local Line Party scene who had taken over the front row of the audience, made some great new friends, and saw that ugly only gets uglier over time – especially with cheap wigs to replace the over-bleached hair that probably fell out. Merlin's Beard, I was laughing my arse off.
What was REALLY funny was that quite a few of the guys from the bands remembered me from The Witching Hour and Lumos. Something about being carried into a concert by a hoard of Death Eaters, thereby crashing one's concert would have that effect on a person. But the amusing thing was that all the other bands new about it. In fact, Brian from the "Malfoys" band and Alax from "The Remus Lupins" both started listing the things they'd remembered about me from the conventions, which I found hysterical. Hey, it's nice to be recognized! Especially as both of them spoke favourably.
So, after the concert, my new friends Scarlett and Danielle came with me back to my place for tea and snacks. They're both absolute loves, and I SHALL corrupt them with slash! MUAHAHAH!
Anyhow, on Monday, we all met up for the encore show of "The Remus Lupins" and the "Whomping Willow" at a bookstore in
So, Tuesday, I'd planned to meet up with Scarlett and Danielle again, but they were busy, which was fine with me because I was completely dead from the previous nights. I went to the gym, caught up with a couple of Merry Smutmas and HD_Holiday fics, and called it a night.
Wednesday, however, I got out of work early. Picked up Scarlett and Danielle from Harvard Square, and we went to
Yesterday, I took and hour out of work in the middle of the day to see them off at the airport. By last night, I'd hit a major level of exhaustion, and I think I might be getting a cold. I hope it's not the flu. I don't have time for that. But I read an AWESOME fic up on Merry Smutmas, and went to bed at a reasonable hour (FINALLY).
Tonight, however, I'll be up late once again. Tis Anime Night over at ravenna_c_tan's house. I anticipate much WTF'ing at the impending Utena arc. The last one was fucked up enough. Not my favourite series, to be sure, but it was fun joining the other people, some of whom have seen the whole series and love it, and some of whom are just being introduced (like me), in laughing our arses off at the sheer ridiculousness of the entire series. Either way, it's a fun bunch of people!
Tomorrow, I'll try to go to Iaido in the morning, and then I NEED to do some shopping, so I'll get that out of the way mid-day. Saturday night, kriken will be coming over, and we'll finally get some time to visit on Sunday.
All in all, a very full week. I can't wait for the holiday break. And YAY for paid holidays! I'm finally getting one! And more YAY for paid vacation!
Anyhow, back to work with me.
Oh… and one more thing…
Yes, I've been working on the new Eclipse sequel. The prologue/first chapter is almost done. I don't have a set title yet, but the working title for the fic is "Convergence." We'll see if it sticks or not. (And please, if that title has been used before, will someone tell me? I haven't read every fic in the fandom, and I don't need to copy someone else's title.) Either way, I'm hoping have the first chapter posted sometime in January. Wish me luck!
AND REMEMBER: If you've read the Epilogue from Eclipse, remember that it's getting deleted. Yes, I have my reasons. It has more to do with the intended plot of the sequel than anything else. When I originally wrote the epilogue, I basically got carried away. I let my immediate amusement with the writing process get the better of me, and I deviated from my plans. The new prologue has a lot in common with the epilogue of the original fic. Some of the scenes are almost identical. However, it's going in a different direction. You'll see. ;)
Addendum: I just got back from a meeting with my boss. Two parts of this meeting. 1. He's going on to work in a different part of the company. Still in the same building, so I'll see him often enough, but it's extremely sad because he's as much of a friend as he is a boss. Almost like a big brother. I'm going to miss working with him to an insane degree. However, 2. I might be promoted to his position. He's pushing for it. HIS boss loves me. And this would be an incredible career move. I like the other people I work with, too, so its' not like I'm going to be stuck working with a bunch of pricks now that he's gone. I think it'll be okay. And... if I get the promotion... I think I'll finally be on track for a real career.
And now... I REALLY need to get back to work. :D

Date: 2006-12-16 03:24 pm (UTC)And the "life change" thing isn't what you're thinking, and no, there's no snogging in front of the JAG officer. It's paperwork and writing a testimonial, etc. I'll explain more on the phone. Call me!

Hopefully the whole 'career' works out.

Date: 2006-12-17 02:31 am (UTC)Either way, it'll be good to get my life back. I'm tired of being the government's pawn. And what better way to go about it than with a hot girlfriend? :D

Date: 2006-12-15 09:48 pm (UTC)As for the "don't ask, don't tell" I'm sure you can round up a hot chick or two to take you up on your offer.

Date: 2006-12-16 03:32 pm (UTC)And yeah... wigs. The wig makes the bloated one look even more like an ugly woman than before. It was hysterical. They spent the entire show in the back corner of the room, looking aloof yet miserable. So funny.

Date: 2006-12-15 10:14 pm (UTC)First of all, Yule Ball at the Middle East:
A) Did you see the Potter Puppet Pals skit?
B) I really like Draco and the Malfoys' "99 Deatheaters".
C) *snerk* cheap powdered wigs to cover bleach-induced alopecia...
The Army:
*applause for cool JAG officers and Lieutenant Colonels*
I'd volunteer to be your girlfriend, and my husband would be fine with it... the perv. ;)
Work:
*pulling for you for the promotion*
Utena:
Have I got the silliest fanvid for you, then...

I love that show. I've seen most of the first season and some of the next, and own the movie... which is slightly odd in some ways but still damn cool.
Convergence:
pardon me for drooling like Fang all over your lap...
Good luck!

Date: 2006-12-16 03:38 pm (UTC)A. Potter Puppet Pals - er... I don't think so. Er... I will?
B. The "99 Death Eaters" song was great. :D
C. I don't know if the wigs were powdered, but they sure were funny!
So, you like the title "Convergence"?

I agree with you on the Hungarian Horntails bit about screaming into the micrphone. That was the only part I winced at, other than that I thought he wasn't bad. He'll get better though ;)
Got my pictures back, will be posting them shortly

Date: 2006-12-16 03:47 pm (UTC)Handcuffs isn't the best of stories - it was a silly little thing that I never finished. (I have so many fics I need to finish, actually.)
