So it's been a while since I've made any sort of personal update. I'm pressed for time (fifteen minutes), so let's make this brief.
First, I've begun practicing Iaido (a form of Japanese swordsmanship) with a local Iaido club. I love it. I've wanted to do this for years. I've got so much to learn, but for a beginner, I'm not terrible.
Next, I joined a Pool team in a regional pool league. I was specifically recruited because I THOUGHT I was terrible. Because of the way the handicap system works in this league, the team DESPERATELY needed a low-ranked player who would SHOW UP for the matches, and more importantly, the tournaments. Yeah, I love to shoot pool. It's fun. But I've seldom done it, and I figured I would generally suck, especially compared to people who compete regularly. I had told Katie, my co-worker who recruited me for the team, that I sucked but that I thought it would be a lot of fun. Well, the team is definitely a lot of fun... fairly young, intelligent, and with a twisted sense of humour. Perfect. But... as I found out, I don't suck. I'm by no means an expert, but for a beginner, I'm a lot better than they'd expected me to be. LOL... I guess I just can't get any better, or they'll need to find someone else who sucks at pool!
(Oh, and the best part of this... their team has consistantly won the league tourament over the past several years, and were expected to win regionals... except their low-ranked player was irresponsible and just didn't show up. As a result... they missed out on an ALL-EXPENSES PAYED TRIP to LAS VEGAS. So... if we win this year... VIVA LAS VEGAS!)
New furniture... I picked up a beautiful wicker shelving unit over the weekend, a lovely platform bed today, this evening I'm getting another futon and possibly a bookshelf, and tomorrow, a tall corner TV center and cabinet. My living room is just about balanced now with the new stuff. The beanbag is gone (it took up too much space), and I might consider selling the blue chair if it's too cluttered after I bring in the futon, but overall, it's looking great. I plan to take some pictures once everything is set up. It's starting to really feel like home. I've got privacy when I want it, but I have friends over all the time, and with the activities I do, I'm never bored. It's great.
And finally... the purpose for my icon of choice today... stupid stupid stupid fucking idiotic annoying obnoxious stupid stupid scientists. ARGH!!! These people can't do a damn thing for themselves! Just... the sheer lack of common sense is killing me. I... just... *HEADDESK*
(I'd explain more, but it would make my brain hurt again, and it might make your brain hurt, too.)
And now... I've got a futon to retrieve!

Date: 2006-10-19 12:03 am (UTC)I'm starting an online biz - www.craftingbalance.com
It's in beta stage right now, and I'm working on getting stuff set up there, but part of what I'm planning to do is act as a consignment venue for handcrafted items with a spiritual touch. I think your wands would be perfect for this. If you're interested in a venue for them, please email me so we can talk about it.

Date: 2006-10-19 12:32 am (UTC)Anyway, did you try and get hold of me while I was in NM? I'm not sure cuz neither the phone nor the internet worked there so I was pretty much stuffed as far as that went. I know I got calls, but when I went to answer, the phone would die (the little coverage bars were like..non-existant...) so I'd lose it, and it would never show me who called *frustrated as hell* I'm now home so it should be a lot easier to get hold of each other now (and I have that free call in/to the US thing, yay!) so if you wanna give it a try sometime...cuz I did enjoy talking to you while at Maaya's :)
Good luck with the furnishings - frustrating to get them in the right place, but once they are, it's awesome :)
PS haven't forgotten your MuraYuu story - just finished Maaya's so now it's your turn :)

Date: 2006-10-19 01:04 am (UTC)It's okay. When I was out west, I had horrible telephone reception. It was awful.
The futon is in place, so now, the only thing I still need is the entertainment center. It's really looking good now. The new futon is beautiful. Worth at least $250, even used. Very solid, beautiful wood, no flaws, mahoghany colour. I love it!
So, are you online now? *poke-nudge*

Date: 2006-10-19 01:20 am (UTC)Yeah, reception down there SUCKED so hardcore I was so frustrated. I couldn't get hold of ANYONE and everybody was getting pissed off at me *whimpers*
I went to bed early (sick) so I'm wide awake now...I'll be on for a while now I think...

Date: 2006-10-19 02:38 am (UTC)As for furniture... you can get a bed as cheap as an air mattress on Craig's List. That's how I got mine. The thing is, you have to hunt and peck carefully to separate the cheap stuff from the quality stuff at cheap prices. The futon I just got... $50, and it's beautiful solid hardwood, mahoghany stain, and a very comforable mattress. Even used, it's got to be worth at least $200, maybe more. I SCORED.

Look under "Furniture". Search for "bed". See what turns up. Trust me. You'll find something you can afford THIS WEEK.
And... you can sleep on my futon anytime! Very comfy!

GirlsBoys stalk everyone's LJ's obsessively. I honestly have no idea what they're up to these days. Haven't been to their LJ's since August, and I can't be arsed. Not worth my time. At the same time, I do check my LJ tracker every so often... my god, they do stalk obsessively. They must hit my LJ at least once a day. It's funny.no subject

Date: 2006-10-19 12:47 pm (UTC)Sorry the scientists are so annoying, they do wear blinders and can't see or think outside their own boxes. Don't AK them, just slap some sense in them.
The Iaido sounds interesting. Is it with a real sword or wooden? I am not surprised that you are not a true beginner at this, I have seen you wield a whip! And yea for pool. I love it too, although I do really suck when I play. But my enthusiasm makes up for it.
*Hugs*

Date: 2006-10-19 01:46 pm (UTC)The sword I'm practicing with is a wooden one, but once I can afford it, I'll get a real one. Most people start with a wooden one to learn the forms. The blade isn't sharp, but the tip is.
And pool is a LOT of fun. I know I'm not the best at it, but I guess I'm a lot better than I thought I was. I know how to shoot, and I know how to put balls in the pockets. I just can't do anything really fancy, and I don't always bank shots well. But... I guess I'm better than most beginners!
*huggles tightly*
By the way, have you heard from Rachael recently? I've been trying to track her down. She was supposed to come see me this weekend...
