Teh Christmas List!
Dec. 6th, 2005 12:13 amOkay, so I never make a Christmas List. In fact, I can't remember the last time I made a list. Why? Because I don't like asking for things, and most of the time, I don't feel like there's anything I really need. I have clothing (albeit not much), food, and a roof over my head. What more do I need? Well, this year, I've discovered that I do have a need for certainly worldly possessions. So, not that 99% of the people on my Friends List would be able to get me anything (mostly because you're nowhere near where I live, and I wouldn't want to ask people for stuff anyway), but I've decided that for my own mental well-being, I want to post my wish-list. Actually, it's almost a need-list at this point.
~ A new computer. I'm using my mother's desktop right now, and the second-hand laptop that I use for writing is on the brink of dying. In fact, even the paint is peeling off, and the screen flickers. I'm afraid of losing my new fic, too. And seeing as I'm moving, having a functional computer of my own might be important.
~ Printer/Scanner. My printer is completely dead. And I don't have any way to upload art anymore either. Tis driving me crazy, especially since I had a recent surge of HP sketching that I can't display.
~ Gryffindor Quidditch Robes. I can carve wands. I have an awesome scarf that someone knitted for me in exchange for a wand. I even made a brand new Nimbus 2000 that looks fucking amazing. Solid birch. But I can't sew for shit, so hence, no robes.
~ Clothing. Seriously, I own two pairs of jeans, one pair of black work trousers (which actually were the $16 ones I bought from Wal-Mart for my Harry costume), and only one remaining pair of khakis that don't have holes in them, but they've got a stain so they're worthless anyway. And shirts... I've got plenty of t-shirts, but almost nothing to wear for my new job. I am *so* screwed.
~ New Glasses. Mine are scratched and even have tiny chips in the glass from flying debris from when I was track-commanding a tank last winter. Don't ask.
~ Contact lenses. I'm on my last pair, and I've stretched one-year's worth of lenses into two years already.
~ A tune-up for my car. I can't afford it, but damn, my car needs it right now.
~ A way out of the Army so that I can actually have a life without living in fear of being uprooted every other week.
~ Some new furniture for my new bedroom in my new appartment. Specifically a small night-stand. I'll pester my mother for this one. *grins*
~ Trip to England. I want to go so badly. I was going to go last winter when I got back from OBC, but it never happened due to unforseen circumstances. It was one of my biggest wishes.
~ To get my knee fixed. I injured it three years ago, and it keeps getting worse. Some days it's fine, but most days, I can't even walk without pain, and I certainly can't run without pain. It's even given out a few times. But I've been a long-distance runner for 12 years, and I'm completely addicted to running. It's part of who I am, so I keep doing it. Not every day like I used to, but as often as my knee can take it. And five minutes after I get back from a run, my knee is so swollen that I can't bend it, and I can barely put weight on it. But I don't have health insurance, so I can't do a damn thing about it yet. It sucks to be me.
~ Enough money to afford the cost of living, seeing as the Army has screwed over my career, my life, and everything else, and my savings are almost gone.
~ Socks. Seriously. I love socks. Warm woollen socks. One can never have enough socks. Alas, another Christmas has come and gone, and I've not received a single pair. People will insist on giving me books.
So, there's my Christmas List. It's a bit different than most lists, I'm guessing, but it's what I want. Eventually, I might want simple things that I don't have, like a CD player, a TV of my own, or even a digital camera that works. But in the meantime, I've got priorities. That's life, and there you have my Christmas List, 2005. Happy Christmas.
~P

Date: 2005-12-13 08:07 pm (UTC)de Pulford, Nicola. The Book of Spells. Hauppauge, NY: Barron's Educational Series, 1998.
It is the first of two books, this one has a black cover with silver writing (the second is the reverse) and a silver ribbon to tie the book shut. It is on page 16 under the heading: Sacred Trees and Plants. They list the Celtic Months as well as the dates we associate with them. I was born in the Celtic month of Gort. Hmmm...I like October better.

Date: 2005-12-06 09:48 pm (UTC)I can *easily* and honestly claim MOST of the things on that list. I'm gay. I AM a conscientious objecter. I've been having headaches and nightmares from the army-related stress, trouble eating, stomach problems, and other psychological issues because they've fucked with me so much. I've been discriminated against because of religion. And... oh yeah, I've got a completely fucked up knee. Discharge? Sounds like a good plan. Plus, seriously, the Army WOULD be better off without me. I rock the boat too much.

Date: 2005-12-06 07:15 am (UTC)You know that there's something on that list that will be soon on it's way to you in the mail!
*squee*
I'd offer you my old laptop, but it is now almost dead too, hence the new one. Perhaps with the new job you might have enough spare cash at the end of the day to do something kewl and fill in some gaps from that list!

Date: 2005-12-07 12:25 am (UTC)Not a problem, I'm just about to send off a load of clothes to the thrift store and if you needed any shirts I could pass them along instead since I feel bad about tossing nice clothes (which is why I've held onto them for so long, LOL).

Date: 2005-12-07 12:28 am (UTC)The question is... how much would it cost you to mail stuff? I don't want you to have to spend money to send things.

Date: 2005-12-07 12:43 am (UTC)Eh, shipping is peanuts compared to what I pay for lunch at work every day and gas money *g*. I just checked my closet, I definatley have one blouse (size L, cranberry colored) that's too short on me (comes to just my waist and I'm 5'9", so it might be okay on you). I know it had a green twin, but it's possible I've already given that away... I'll double check to see if there's anything else and get back to you :)

Date: 2005-12-10 03:51 pm (UTC)By the way, I got your card, but I've been working so many hours, I haven't had the energy to reply when I've gotten home at night. Retail at the Christmas season sucks monkey balls. :p
How have you been?
