My dog just got back from having surgery today.  She and I were running, and she tore a ligament in her back leg.  So, it's "fixed", but she's going to be hopping around on three legs for a few weeks.  She doesn't look unhappy though.  Big smile, lots of kisses.  She's fully alert and awake, and isn't acting "drugged", so it's looking very good.  Oh, my poor puppy.  I had pictures of her posted in an entry a while back.

In more personal news, I discovered a lump in my left breast last night.  I'm only 25, so I'm almost sure that it's just a cyst.  There's no history of breast cancer in my family.  Still, it's rather unsettling, and I'm going to have it checked as soon as possible.  Plus, I don't have any health insurance, so if it was something worse, I wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about it anyway.

Been there, done that. Had a fibroid whatsis removed when I was 29.

If you drink a lot of caffeine, try to cut it down or out. If the lump feels kind of like a grape, round and a bit squishy and maybe not really "attached" to the flesh under it, then it's almost certainly a cyst.

*hugs* Hope it's nothing but an annoyance!

PS: *goggles* Aren't you guaranteed health care by that employer who might be sending you overseas soon?!?

Well, it feels "attached", but it's a bit sore to the touch, which is what makes me really think it's just a cyst. And no, I don't drink much caffiene at all. I'm generally a health-food freak.

Oh, and I don't get health coverage for "part time". I'm not full-time yet, and I STILL don't know when they'll make that transition.

Interesting... ha. Translation: my world is collapsing around me. Can I die now?

As the Chinese curse goes, 'May you live in Interesting Times'; and no, you can't die - not 'til you've finished Eclipse! ;)

Seriously, hope things pick up - you sure deserve some good luck!

I'll finish Eclipse... don't worry about that. But after that, no promises. I'm 25 years old. I've known for a long time that fate doesn't want me to live to the age of 26.

This is jumping fandoms, but that sounds a lot like a quote from the Anita Blake books, she keeps saying she doesn't expect to hit 30.

On a more serious note, glad your dog is doing ok, and good luck with your own health issues. I'll be crossing my fingers for you that it's just a cyst. My mum had a lump taken out oh... 8 or 9 years ago, and it turned out to be a cyst. We don't have a hystory of breast cancer, but we do have cysts running in it (My grandfather used to get them, my mum also had a nasty one removed from her wrist and my sis had one removed from her back when she was 14, I've been lucky as yet *crosses fingers*). But either way it's best to find out asap, that way if it is a cyst you have the peace of mind of knowing it.

I'm applying for low-income medical coverage, and hopefully, I'll be able to get it taken care of under all that. And I'm pretty sure it's a cyst. I highly doubt that anything as non-explosive or slow and drawn out as breast cancer would be the thing to do me in. I expect something... unexpected. Not worried though. To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure, right? ;)

shit ... this sound bad :/... please see a doctor about the lump, this can be serious ! i have some history of breast-cancer in my family and i know what this means *sigh* please see a doc ? as for health insurance - this is bad, but perhaps it is only a small thing and you can get rid of it ;)

but i am happy for your puppy, that she is not lethargic or so ;).. most dogs dont like to have bandages or such things on the legs, they bite it off or get unhappy ;) that she is alert and gives dog-kisses, is a good sign :)))

i hope, that all goes well,

*hugsdeeply*, bye, Blackie ;)...

Rascal (the dog) doesn't have bandages. Just staples. It's actually a very clean incision, and she's not messing with it at all. Except for the fact that she's not putting weight on it, she's not even paying attention to it.

And yes, I'll get the lump checked as soon as possible.

I went through a scare like this just a few weeks ago, and indeed it turned out to be cysts. Very nerve-wracking at the time, though, so thoughts are with you. Go get the so-and-so checked out as fast as possible.

I do not understand the USA's approach to healthcare. The NHS is at its greatest at moments like these.

Anyway. Thinking of you.

Thanks. *huggles* And yes, our nation's health care system is one of the worst in the industrialisted world.

Just please check that lump, I'm 31 and 6 months ago I discovered a lump.

Now I know I have breast cancer, and because it was an early detection I have good possibilities, so just don“t let that go.

I am amzed you don't get health insurance through the Army, mind the US health system boggles me (safe, as I am, in the bosom of the NHS).

All the best and I hope it turns out to be benign.

Yeah, like ias said, it really is a surprise that you haven't got health insurance in the country that has the "world's best health service" and it really seems quite a disturbing aspect of US society.
Yet I too rest safely within Britain's NHS, which while we may complain, at least we don't have to worry about being left to die just because we don't have enough money to pay for treatment on a ruptured spleen or something silly like that.
I don't hate America, I really don't. It's just that sometimes it seems so Goddamn hypocritical.

Oh, and *huggles* to you and your doggie. My two have had so many injuries, ranging from broken bones and sliced paws due to glass shards being hidden in some grass, to them randomly beating each other up, so I know how it can be. :)

sending good vibes...

Joining the chorus of folks wishing you the best, but urging you to get it checked out straight away. We know you're brave and tough, but have it looked at ASAP. :gentle hug:

I know this is completely OT but woot for FSMism! I love the icon. Did you make it yourself or get it from somewhere? I didn't see one like it on the FSM site.

Hope the *lump* turns out to be nothing, but best to get it checked. NHS one here too, we grunt and complain, but we would hang the government if we didn't have it.
My cat fell out of the window a couple of months ago, and stunningly she is as right as rain now. I'm glad your pup is ok.

I'll just add my sentiments because enough people haven't said it already (sarcasm). Get it checked out, though, seriously. I'm sure everything is okay, but it never hurts to be safe. Hey, dusantiago, can I totally steal your avatar? *puppy doggy eyes*

Is it bad that I read this post and immediately went "Oh! Poor Puppy!" *sad* and then it took me a few more minutes until it finally clicked that, oh yeah, the possible breast cancer thing could be bad, too. eep. I'm not usually that bad. I shall wish you the good vibes that circulate about my family because my mom's cousin had breast cancer in the mid 90s and she's been in remission for a good ten years or so now, which is like twice the normal remission time, so YAY! *wishing you good luck vibes*

My great grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid-eighties and they couldn't operate because of her age... with treatment she eventually died of old age when she was nearly 100.

I hope the lump is nothing. The US healthcare system wants a swift kick up the behind - like many here I'm british and I <3 the NHS - but I'm sure that should it turn out to be more serious we'll all rally round to help with costs.

Good Luck

Eep! Finding lumps for the first time is terrifying! I went through that in high school. Taking vitamin E helps a lot as do circular massages when the things start to hurt.
I hope it's okay.

*sending good thought your way*

Not going to even mention how much of a crime it is that you don't qualify for health care.

I will keep you in my thoughths. It sounds as though you do regular self-exams which is great. It is the best way to keep on top of your health. Sorry to hear about the lack of coverage, typical government FUBAR. Check into a payment plan if necessary, many places will work with you. Keep us posted.
And I am glad you dog is doing OK.

Sadly, I don't do self-exams as regularly as I should. I only noticed when I bumped the area, it felt tender to the touch, and when I poked around, I found a distinct lump. We'll see what happens. Thankee. *hugs*
