The Day After... (my birthday)

So, yesterday was the big two-five.  The quarter-century mark.  Damn, I feel old.  Blah.  I went out for lunch with my mother on the 11th, but all my friends were busy, working, or out of town yesterday.  So, I decided to have a nice quiet birthday.  I started off the day visiting my horse.  (Read: shovelling horse shit for 5 hours so that I can afford to keep him boarded there.)  Didn't feel like riding, because my stomach was a bit off and I had a headache, but I did learn how to "swing up" bareback with the horse in motion.  T'was cool.

Then, I cleaned up and went to Newick's seafood restaurant, where you get $10 off your dinner on your birthday.  I had broiled scallops and swordfish with salad and baked potato for $6.50.  It was a nice, enjoyable, quiet lunch, which I shared with Harry Potter, via my copy of HBP.  (It's even better on the re-read!)

Next, I went to Barnes and Nobles, to partake in my favourite personal pastime: writing my fic.  Chapter 16 is coming along beautifully.

Finally, I went home, checked my e-mail (*sigh* I was hoping for more activity on Schnoogle.), went for a nice run, showered, and waited for my mother and sister to come home.  They were supposed to get back home from Boston around 8:00PM, and we were going to have ice cream cake with my neighbourhood friends, but they got back at 11:00.  By then, I actually felt kinda sick... headache, dizzy, etc.  It really sucked.  So, I crashed on the sofa, watched the end of the Red Sox game (they won, yay!), and finally dragged my sorry arse to bed. 

The highlight of my birthday was the beautiful piece of artwork that red_rahl  made for me for a present.  It's really beautiful.  H/D in the woods!  SQUEE!  (Go over there and give her some review-loving!  Now!)

Oh! And SQUEE AGAIN! I get to be the photographer today at the wedding.  Oh yes.  My friend's (the groom) photographer cancelled on him the day before yesterday.  The only photographer who COULD do it was going to charge James $1,000.  Insane, if you ask me.  So, being the only photo-savvy person he knows, I'm doing it.  Consider it my wedding gift, because I'm dead-broke.

Anyway, time to go get dressed.  Is it appropriate to wear black to a wedding?  *meh*

I thought that wearing black to a wedding was to make a point that you disapproved of the marriage because you were in love with the bride or groom or you wanted to bring doom and gloom.

Wouldn't it be worse to wear an ancient frock of a dress that was barely in fashion 8 years ago? You see, all of my dresses (which isn't many) are either white, red, or black. Obviously, I can't wear white. The groom SPECIFICALLY said not to wear red, because it's some sort of local taboo. (If you wear red, it's supposed to mean that you think the bride is a slut, which I think is a silly tradition.) And that leaves this beautiful but simple black mid-calf-length dress that looks awesome on me, or this above-the-knee navy blue dress with big light blue floral print that I wore when I was a teenager and didn't know any better. *headdesk*

Ack - sorry I didn't get to call back last night. John got into the game (he spent $20 on a standing room only ticket, then met a girl who offered him a seat on the third base line a few rows from the bottom - for free! Lucky bastard...), but Meg and I decided to wander (she likes doing the touristy bit) and got distracted ;)

It's too late to go shopping, but you can't go shopping if you don't have money. I know a lot of people who like to give the answer "just buy something new"... but that's not a solution I can afford.

However, the wedding is over, I wore the black dress, and it was fine. The groom said I looked great, and I had several men compliment me. At least I didn't wear white, like one woman did, or red like another one. :)

i remember knowing we are both leos but i dont remember you ever telling me your actual birthdate...im sorry i missed it, you know i wouldve loved to have taken you to the 313 for a bday smash, but it sounds like you enjoyed the free time.
why didnt you just wear nice slacks and a good looking shirt to the wedding? that's what i wore to my brother's wedding...well, that and a tie... ;-) that's mostly because you wont find me dead in a dress. but...thats another story. anyway...happy belated...and dont feel bad about your age, ill be 26 next week. yech...

Eh, sometimes, even I like to wear a dress. Besides, I did it for James, the groom. He's like my little brother, he really wanted me to wear a dress, and for a good friend like him, I was happy to do it. Besides, I actually looked damn good in that little black number. But usually, you won't find me caught dead in a dress either. *wink* Of course, I was almost one of the "groomsmen", and would have worn a tux with the rest of them, but because I thought I might not have been around for the wedding, I told James it was a better bet not to count on me being there.

And Happy Birthday to you too, early! I forgot exactly which days yours is too. Tell me?
