Well, I have a job offer.  A WONDERFUL job offer.  I'd be working as a biologist observer on fishing vessels in Alaska.  It's exciting.  It's adventurous.  It would be the opportunity of a lifetime.

One BIG problem... I'd have to miss The Witching Hour.

I know... TWH is a fandom event of no real consequence to my life as a whole, but I WANT to go SO badly.  Besides, the people who want to hire me would still take me in December, so it's not "all or nothing" in terms of getting the job.  They definitely want me.  I'm extremely qualified and suited for this job.  They like me, and they're prepared to hire me today.  But... if I go today, I'd have to leave for Anchoridge, Alaska next week.  I'd be gone until November.  I'd be leaving behind my horse (for whom I need a buyer), my car (which I can't bring with me), and The Witching Hour (which I desperately want to attend).

If I stay here, I can find a shit-job in the meantime, to keep my head above water.  I'd be able to attend TWH.  And finally, I could still take the job in Alaska this summer.  But right now... I NEED TO DECIDE BY TOMORROW.

*whimper*  Help?

(By the way, I should also mention that TWH is happening barely an hour away from where I live, which is the only reason I can go to it so easily.)

I think that on a practical level, taking the job now is really the way to go. It's only up to you and which you value more.

I think I should have also mentioned that TWH takes place barely an hour from where I live... I'll never have a better chance to get to a HP fandom event in my life. In fact, its proximity to my residence is the only reason I can attend.

Jobs like this don't come along very often. There will be other fan gatherings that you will be able to attend. I'd say take the job.

I'm looking desperately for a job right now, and IMO it sucks not to have any (and not only due to financial reasons), so I'd take the job.

Congratulations on the job offer! It sounds like an exciting opportunity. I'm with everyone else here who thinks you should go for it. The fandom will still be around when you get back.

Plus, what if you postponed the job until December but then got called up for duty and couldn't do it at all? Would that be a bigger disappointment for you than missing TWH?

Also, Alaska in the summer/fall sounds much more appealing to me than Alaska in the winter...brrr!

Can't you ask for some time to sell the horse and the car? At least a month to sort out your life? Oh, ok, maybe you need to go onboard a ship and you have certain dates to do it...

Hm, what's the weather like in Alaska now? And if you don't go now, what will it be like in December? Ok, maybe it's just me concerned about this, but go when the weather will be best for you.

And even if taking a job now seems like the more sensible thing...If the Witching Hour isn't happening again, then you might just wait and take the job later. Plus, it sounds like you need to get things settled with your horse, house and car. Those are things that you can't just sloppily leave behind. If you need more time with those things, then I'd say take the job later.

Weather is decent in Alaska right now, but honestly, bad weather doesn't bother me. I love the cold, the snow, the wind. I hate hot weather. So that's not an issue to me. I dunno.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind...if you really really want to go to the convention, and you're sure that it's feasible for you to take the job, later then stay. It's obviously what you want to do.

Now, to the dilemma... I know how much you want to attend TWH. And you've already put so much energy and time towards it with the Street Team and for the RoR. And while there will be Lumos next year, it won't be TWH.

Now the job is an excellent opportunity. It's something you'd love to do, and it'd give you a steady income.

But it'll still be there in December. Just 5 months away. If you want to go to TWH that badly, then go. In the end, it's all up to you and how much you want it.

I say do what you want! If the job WILL be there later, then you have no worries, right? Making any kind of big move is not an easy decision, and doing it so quickly could be really hard for a lot of reasons.

Thing is, I can't promise myself that I can go to the next fandom gathering. The reason I can go to this one is because it's barely an hour drive from where I live. I'm also involved in a few of the H/D things. I've been to Salem several times in the past few months, doing things with the Street Team. This is a big thing for me too, and the next fandom event will be a couple thousand miles from me.

And you're more than welcome... for the BDSM insights, the fic, and everything. :)
