What's been happening...
Feb. 18th, 2006 12:19 amSo, yeah, it's been way too long since I updated. Thanks
wintermoon3 for the nudge. I needed that. So, what have I been up to?
First, in the world of the HP fandom, I finally finished Eclipse. Strangely, I keep second-guessing some of the decisions I made towards the end. I keep wondering if I should have made different choices. I know the ending of the epilogue surprised a lot of people, but I hope it wasn't bad. *wibbles and frets* I'm seriously worried that it's not good enough.
On the real-life side of the coin, in early January, I moved to Winthrop, MA, just north of Boston. At first, I thought I was moving in with three awesome roommates. Turns out that the oldest of them, Brian, has severe communication issues - is incapable of interacting with other adults in a mature and straightforward way. His boyfriend Chip also lives there. Chip is pretty cool, but it's plainly obvious that Brian manipulates him, and I don't even think Chip realizes it. I like Chip, but even he has his issues. Between the both of them, everything is a federal case. Small issues that could be fixed with a quick "Hey, could you ____, thanks" turn into major issues. They're both older than me, but when it comes to human interaction, they're both still boys. It's sad. Nathan, on the other hand, is the only straight one in the house, he's one year YOUNGER than me, and he's great. Shockingly mature for his age, responsible, and even though he and I are very different, we get along because we communicate and aren't assholes to each other. I consider him a good friend now, and I absolutely adore his girlfriend too - she's so sweet. I hope they stay together.
Anyhow, I'm moving out. I NEED to find a place in the Boston area. Cambridge would be nice. Northern half of the red line (for those familiar with the T) would be phenomenal. Any fandom folks in that area looking for a roommate? *puppy eyes* Seriously, if you live in the Boston area, and you're in the market for a roommate, or know someone who is, pass the news on to me!
The reason I'm in Cambridge, of course, is because I just started a job there. I work as a lab assistant for Novartis Biomedical research, in their oncology lab. I love my job. Great boss with a kick-ass crazy sense of humour, nice people, good work environment, lots of little perks I wouldn't have even thought of normally. Of course, I deal with some of the dumbest smart people in the world on a daily basis, but in the end, it makes for a good chuckle at their expense.
Third... I'm not getting deployed. Yes, you heard me right. NOT GETTING DEPLOYED. Possibly EVER. I got transferred to the unit of my choice - a non-deploying unit with really cool people who are kind to each other and have a sense of humour. AND they're finally going to fix my messed up knee. Yes, I need knee surgery. I knew I did, and in recent months my knee has gotten so bad that I've had trouble walking some days. That's not easy for someone who's been a distance runner for 12 years. Anyhow, it's getting fixed. When that's over, I might get a medical discharge. But even if I don't, my time in service will almost be up. Still, if I'm with a nice bunch of people like this group, I might stay in. I just recent got promoted to First Lieutenant, so the next step is Captain. I might just stick it out. Who knows?
Sadly, not every bit of news is good. See, I didn't register for Lumos because I was SUPPOSED to be getting deployed with this unit from Maryland, and it was supposed to happen any time. Fuck, I wasn't even supposed to be able to go to The Witching Hour. I figured I'd really be pushing my luck to even dream of going to Lumos. Well, I only found out for sure about this unit transfer TODAY. I hadn't looked at the Lumos site in a while because it was too damned depressing. So I went immediately after receiving my orders. And this is where I felt like someone had ripped my guts out with a blunt, rusty hook. SOLD OUT. Been sold out for a couple of weeks, so I was told. I couldn't believe it. I actually started sniffling and crying a bit, right there at work. Thank Merlin I have my own office, and nobody saw me.
There HAS to be a way for me to get tickets. Is there ANYONE who bought tickets to Lumos but who isn't going? I'll buy your ticket from you! Above cost, if you demand it! Anyone? I can honestly say that I'm desperate. Do you KNOW someone who bought a ticket, but who can't go? I'll take any lead I can get. I already have a spot in a hotel room, so I don't even need that. JUST A TICKET! *whimpers and wibbles* I'll give you cookies!
*toodles off to bury her doubts in a bottle of Ogden's Firewhiskey*
*realizes she doesn't have any firewhiskey, but the bottle of 2001 Alexander Valley Cabernet Savignon will do nicely*
