If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've written and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

So, from all the stuff I've written in both HP and ST fandoms... what's the one thing that sticks in your brainbox?  An image?  A phrase?  A scene?  Some tiny detail overlooked by everyone else?  Some grandiose, gut-wrenching moment of emotional cataclysm?  Have I managed to write something that sticks with you?

For anyone curious... I have my own favorites.  Two of them.
1. First is the image from near the end of my Harry Potter fic, "Eclipse," where we see Harry returning to school, carrying Draco's body. The scene is written from Hermione's point of view... one of the only scenes in the entire story not exclusively told from Harry's or Draco's perspective. The whole scene has always played out in my head like a scene from a movie, complete with soundtrack. I cried when I first got the idea for the scene in my mind.
2. Second is a scene in my Star Trek story, "And All the King's Men," right after Jim and Bones escape from Terra Prime's bunker, before the explosion. Bones is on the ground, Jim just got shot in the shoulder, but they're being perused by one of the terrorists. Knowing that Bones' injury is critical, and that he's got to fight off their attacker, Jim forces himself up and prepares to fight the guy. The text reads: "With that, [Jim] rolled to his knees and perched on his toes like a sprinter just about to start a race. His hand went to his phaser as he looked up at their oncoming attacker, and without a glance back, he launched himself into the night." We see/feel the scene from Bones' point of view.

Obviously mine has to do with Janice Toland. Duh. But I have to say the one that stuck with me was when Jim has the panic attack, in And All The King's Men, and Bones tells Toland precisely what is going on with him and why he's so traumatized, and her reaction. That, I think, was when I fell in love with her.

You mean the scene where Bones gets dragged into Toland's office after he discovers she's kicked him off the training sim rotation?

Aaah, you and Toland. Eventually, I'll write something for you with her. I have an idea or three.

I can easily think of a handful, but I'm going to go with the one where the Klingons board the Enterprise, and Jim "mails" himself to McCoy, since he promised he'd keep Bones safe, so wherever Bones is, that's where Jim needs to get. ACK, JIM.

Return to sender, eh? Oh, my boys.

I'd have chosen that except I'd forgotten that you are the author (I've a terrible memory for authors and for fic titles - I just remember bits of stories and I loved that story).

Picking two here... a moment and a quote.

1. The moment in Crossfire when Jim realizes it's not all about him. A very important turning point in his development.

2. Bones saying "I care enough to inflict the very best." Don't know why, but that little sentence has stuck with me for a while. :D

1. That was indeed an important moment for Jim. It's not flashy or exciting or adventurous. No explosions or grandiose moments of action, but... yeah. I'm glad some people have picked up on it.

2. I admit, I love that quote, too.

And again my other choice would be the 'not all about him' moment from Crossfire!

*laughs* Everyone's beating you to the punch!

Actually, my favorite scenes from Crossfire... the ones that hit me the hardest... were:
1. Right after Jim escapes the hospital, when Bones finds him as he collapses, and the scene closes with Leonard sitting there in the fog and the darkness, feeling horribly alone.
2. Right after Jim goes nuts and attacks the civilian engineers... the look on his face when he REALIZES what he's done.
3. The moment Jim punches the wall.

But that's just how my brain works.

In Perfect Trust! The needle play scene, especially the beginning as Bones carefully talks Jim through it.

*grins* I admit, I loved writing that a little TOO much. ;)

Harry remembering boys' eye colors and not any girls'. And just how quietly profound that fact is.

"In Perfect Trust."

I tried to pick something that wasn't just a particularly well-written or emotional scene, something that had actually changed me personally. So it's this (from Part 3): "Green, yellow, and red. Got it?"

That's such an unexpected line to have an impact... but I can see it. :)

I have two; both from Eclipse. The moment when Draco undoes Harry's belt. The chemistry in that scene, and Harry sensing it but not really knowing what it means...guh!

And the conversation Harry and Draco have about Harry not really being afraid of anything. Harry says he's afraid of ants when they're all in a pile (and voldemort but that doesn't count). But he's not really afraid of them; they're just sort of creepy and icky. I have no idea why, but for whatever reason this stayed with me. Ack! Now I have to go re-read Eclipse!

Also hi! I'm Essie, and I just friended you, and we met at Infinitus.

You know, I almost forgot about the scene where Harry and Draco undress each other. It's been so long since I re-visited that story!

I'm not sure why the thing about Harry being creeped out by ants stuck with you, but... as an inside bit of info... that's one of my phobia-ish things. I just gave it to Harry for the purpose of the scene.

And hi! I'm trying to remember screen names with faces from Infinitus. Part of the problem with conventions is that there are so many awesome people and dozens of screen names all bombarding me at once. I forget who's who! Forgive me? But hi! And welcome to my LJ! :D

I personally can never forget the image of your "In Perfect Trust" story. The illustration helps, of course, but I just love how Jim submits and finally relaxes.

Yeah, that's a scene that was stuck in my head for quite a while while I was writing it, and after.

I've only read maybe two of your fics so far, but I'll comment anyway! I think I stumbled across your journal by accident, and I so captivated by lizardspots's drawing from And All the Kings Men, that I immediately had to go read it. Now I'm obsessed with it. I'd say the two moments that are sticking in my brain right now are the one in that drawing, and the moment when they get ambushed on Thanksgiving and Bones looks up to see Kirk trying to scream his name. *_*

Aaah, I adore that drawing Lizardspots did. She's so amazing. I love her art anyway, and I'm still amazed at how she captured that scene. She'd actually asked me what scene I'd most like to see illustrated, and I picked that one because the visual was so strongly burned into my mind that I had to see it. I like the ambush, too. I'm so glad you've been enjoying my writing!
