Yesterday, I read an article about four Star Trek medical technologies that are already becoming a reality.

Today, I just read an article about mathematical models for cloaking devices that hide things in space/time.

You know, I really think a lot of us science geeks got into our particular fields of study because of Star Trek.  And I think that's brilliant.

Certainly impacted me

Star Trek just shows how much fun science can be. We aren't boring, people! Join us!

One of us... One of us... One of us... One of us...

Seriously, though, CDs and cell phones are Star Trek influenced, so for those who think it's just for geeks, think again. It has already crept into your daily lives! :)

Neat!! I'm adding that to the "cloaking device" that my Alien Craft use in the continuation of my great-uncle's work.

Alien craft have to have cloaking devices; this is why they were spotted until the 50s when they suddenly stopped. :)

Well, Carl Sagan said he got into science because of an interest in cheesy sci-fi novels and he's a big hero of mine. It just goes to show that even what might be looked down on as a low brow interest in a child (or the young at heart) should probably be encouraged if it fuels one's imagination.

We were talking about how Star Trek and science fiction in general were the preludes and inspiration of cell phones. Thanks of Star Trek, I have a JOB.

I know I got interested in science because of Star Trek, though, I narrowed it down to food science because of Alton Brown :P

All hail the uber-geekiness of Alton Brown! I freakin' love that man.

Speaking of Star Trek geekiness, this reminded me that I wanted to ask you a question. (Yes, this is nearly completely off topic)

Have you ever read The Seafort Saga by David Feintuch? It's got that Star Trek feel and I adored every single book (except maybe the last one). =D Just, curious. =)

Alas, no I haven't read it. Perhaps I should! What's it about?

Set in the future where a young man joins the Navy (which is in space, by that time) and a series of events lead him to being a captain at a ridiculously young age. Starts out with him as a cadet and moves up through pretty much his whole life in the entirety of the series. I quite enjoyed it!

Huh, cool! I guess I'll have to check it out. :)
