Disclaimer: Gene Roddenberry is God, Paramount Pictures is Pope, and this is the blasphemy of a wayward faithful. My geeky spirit is rich, but my purse is empty.

Author’s Notes: This story is part of the Academy-era story arc, which includes Convergence and And All the King’s Men.”Crossfire” is a direct sequel. Several things in this story will not make sense unless you’ve read AAtKM first.  If you haven't read the other stories, before you start digging into this monster of a fic, only to find yourself asking, "What the fuck is he talking about?" please read at least AAtKM.  Better if you read both.

Please also note that with AAtKM, "Crossfire" is the second in a three-part Academy story arc.  AAtKM was the first part of the Academy trilogy.  The final part of the trilogy will be posted sometime next year.

This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang  challenge.  Therefore, I was teamed up with a fanartist and fanmixer who created art and a soundtrack, respectively, for this story.  Please check out their work at the links below!

Summary: Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy are on top of the world at the academy until it all comes crashing down around them. Trapped in their own mystery of politics, sabotage, and possible murder, it quickly becomes impossible to know who to trust. Worse, Jim might still be a target. With a dangerous criminal on the loose and Academy leadership not doing enough, Jim and Bones have to get their lives back together and find out what happened... before it happens again.

Hey Mijan!  I'm going to read this, but I have to read the other two first.  Just so you know I'll be reading on LJ for a couple of reasons.  1. It seems to make you happy, and 2. You didn't break AATKM into chapters on AO3.  Since I'll be reading it in parts over the next week or two, the chapter breaks will be crucial for keeping my place.  If I have to scroll through 140K every time I'm ready to read I won't get much reading done.  :) Of course, you can post your fic however you want, I just wanted to let you know what works for me since you seemed interested.

Hey there!

YAY! Thanks for reading! I hope you like it.

Actually, AAtKM is posted in one large file through LJ. A friend actually posted it for me on a server, so it's all one big single page. If you want to read AAtKM broken into pieces, I've actually reposted it recently on the new Kirk/McCoy archive:
http://kmarchive.net/viewstory.php?sid=10
That's been broken into seven pieces there. I'm thinking of re-posting it on LJ so I'll have it in pieces, and because the server space that my friend let me use is full of advertisements.

But anyway, Convergence is in four pieces on LJ, AAtKM is in chapters on the KM Archive, and obviously, Crossfire is in chapters right here. Take your pick! I'm just delighted that you're reading my stories. :D

Lol, yeah, I figured out about AATKM being one file. :D The Kirk/McCoy archive sounds perfect, I'll check it out. You know you can post all your fics to the AO3 in chapters, right? Just an FYI.

Just so I have it right, the order is AAtKM, Convergence then Crossfire? And Pfffttt, of course I'm reading your stories! The only reason I've not read them yet is that this year has been busy and difficult, and I haven't read as much as I want to. I had intended to get to them much sooner.

Yes, I know I can post to AO3 in chapters. However, when I posted a poll asking how people would PREFER to read it, more people asked for one long file, despite the length. I haven't yet posted Crossfire and Convergence to the KM Archive, but I will when I get a new computer. My laptop died, I'm using my wife's laptop right now, and I don't have my files. But they will be posted. :)

And noooooo... the chronological order is Convergence, then AATKM, then Crossfire. Convergence actually takes place during/around the scenes in Riverside, Iowa in the movie... the bar fight with Kirk, McCoy's arrival on the shuttle, etc. It all takes place before Jim and Bones arrive at the Academy. AAtKM takes place during their first year at the Academy, and Crossfire is second year. I WROTE Convergence after I wrote AAtKM, but the real order is Convergence first. :D

I hope you like them! Be sure to let me know what you think?

Ah, ok.

Oh whoops! I'm half way through AAtKM now, too late to turn back, lol. It's fantastic so far. I'm to the part where Jim's told Bones what he remembers and doesn't want to fall asleep that first night, but I get the feeling that it all goes downhill from here. The sim was amazing, I really love the level of detail you wrote into it. I really enjoyed Pike and McCoy on the observation deck, and I LOVE how Jim kicked ass before the panic attack. Very exciting!

LOL - it's okay. Obviously, if I WROTE AAtKM before Convergence, they can be read in that order.

I'm glad you're enjoying the level of detail! It's kinda key to how I write. And I also have a *thing* for writing clever!Jim.

And... I don't know about downhill... but a lot of stuff happens. *grins*

I know, the detail is what I love about your writing. Stuff like "plascrete" and all the computer monitors and phaser details from the sim are fantastic. You make it feel very real. I also love clever!Jim, and you write him so well. I'm looking forward to seeing what else happens!
