Series: ST: XI
Character/Pairing(s): Kirk & McCoy, Pike, Scotty
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 140,000
Warnings: I beat the fucking shit out of Jim Kirk, and give you all the goddamned details. I also cuss a little bit.
Disclaimer: Gene Roddenberry is God, Paramount Pictures is Pope, and this is the blasphemy of a wayward faithful. My geeky spirit is rich, but my purse is empty.
Author’s Notes: This story is part of the Academy-era story arc, which includes ”Convergence” and “And All the King’s Men.” “Crossfire” is a direct sequel. Several things in this story will not make sense unless you’ve read AAtKM first. If you haven't read the other stories, before you start digging into this monster of a fic, only to find yourself asking, "What the fuck is he talking about?" please read at least AAtKM. Better if you read both.
Please also note that with AAtKM, "Crossfire" is the second in a three-part Academy story arc. AAtKM was the first part of the Academy trilogy. The final part of the trilogy will be posted sometime next year.
This was written for the
startrekbigbang challenge. Therefore, I was teamed up with a fanartist and fanmixer who created art and a soundtrack, respectively, for this story. Please check out their work at the links below!
Summary: Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy are on top of the world at the academy until it all comes crashing down around them. Trapped in their own mystery of politics, sabotage, and possible murder, it quickly becomes impossible to know who to trust. Worse, Jim might still be a target. With a dangerous criminal on the loose and Academy leadership not doing enough, Jim and Bones have to get their lives back together and find out what happened... before it happens again.

Date: 2010-11-06 06:03 pm (UTC)I DON'T CARE. It's an amazing fic, and (from glancing at the link to chapter 19), I'm so glad you kept that ending - when I read it, even at that early, unfinished stage, it gave me shivers. This is a ridiculously powerful fic - because it feels real and it feels painful and it just feels, so much.
In summary, I'm a failure, and you're amazing. ♥♥

Date: 2010-11-07 06:57 am (UTC)I hope you have a chance to read this fic in its final form soon, because I did change a lot. Added a lot. Fixed a lot. But I'm glad you were pleased to see that I kept that ending. I really liked it too.
And you are ALSO amazing, so don't even give me that. ♥

I loved your other story All the King's Men and I'd love to read this one too. :)

Date: 2010-11-07 08:13 am (UTC)When I started reading the fic... I wasn't able to stop. I had to read EVERYTHING at once XDDD The ending is just PERFECT, you kept it in a very, very good quality, your style of writing is AMAZING... I wanted to hug Jim, Bones, Pike and Scotty for THE WHOLE TIME... it was heartbreaking, but wonderful, and the ending made me smile and... it was just PERFECT.
I feel like I should thank you for writing this XDDD May I hug you, please?

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story so much. I was really nervous about it because I wrote it with such a time-crunch and I wasn't sure if I'd edited it correctly. I had intentionally designed the ending to be almost an anti-climax. No huge battle. No terrorists. No major conspiracy. I wanted to see Jim Kirk completely gutted by the shock of how *small* it was, instead of crashing through to be a hero. I didn't know how people would receive that. I'm so glad it worked out!
Thank you again!

Date: 2010-11-20 05:09 pm (UTC)YAY! Thanks for reading! I hope you like it.
Actually, AAtKM is posted in one large file through LJ. A friend actually posted it for me on a server, so it's all one big single page. If you want to read AAtKM broken into pieces, I've actually reposted it recently on the new Kirk/McCoy archive:
http://kmarchive.net/viewstory.php?sid=10
That's been broken into seven pieces there. I'm thinking of re-posting it on LJ so I'll have it in pieces, and because the server space that my friend let me use is full of advertisements.
But anyway, Convergence is in four pieces on LJ, AAtKM is in chapters on the KM Archive, and obviously, Crossfire is in chapters right here. Take your pick! I'm just delighted that you're reading my stories. :D
