Last Reminder: STAR TREK MEETUP!

Just a reminder to everyone...

The USS Macchiato sails this Saturday!  We begin our mission on the ice planet of Delta Vega at the Crown Center Ice Terrace at 2:00 PM.  Trekkies on Ice!  Two hours of ice skating with your fellow crewmates. 

At 4:00 (or when we start to freeze), we'll head back to my place.  There, my Trophy Wife and Acting CMO will be serving cookies and hot chocolate.  I'll also have a large pot of my chili, in case you want something without an overdose of sugar.  Please, if you are so inclined, feel free to bring snacks and/or drinks!  We will provide both some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but if you have a strong preference, please either TELL me, or bring some along!

The party at my house will continue until we're too tired to function.  There will be Trek episodes and movies playing in the TV room, and socializing space aplenty in the living room and kitchen.  I know at least a couple of people are planning to spend the night, but we still have space left.  Please remember - nobody drives home drunk, nobody drives home overtired.  If we need to, we WILL make space for you.  We can launder clothes, provide towels and shower supplies, and we even keep an emergency supply of new, in-package toothbrushes.  However, if you are planning to stay over, please let me know!

I was just thinking last night: if we're gonna do Trekfest this year, we've gotta start planning, don't we? I mean, this is a major ass event, we need to reserve rooms and figure out transportation before everything gets booked up. I've calculated that my cheapest round-trip route from Dodge to KC is Greyhound, but I still have to have my sister drop me off an hour away in Hays, so I'm holding out for someone I can go splitsies with on gas. *is very aware of the price of things now that she has no money*

I'm not going this year, but I can tell you that you'll have no trouble getting super cheap hotel rooms and whatnot. My old college town, Iowa City, is about a 10 minute drive from Riverside and as it is in the summer, all the university town hotels are empty and have amazing room rates. If you really want to stay IN Riverside, you can stay at the resort that the Trekkiest parts of the fest take place. But, it's a small event. Really it is. It's a town festival held on a weekend in Iowa during which a bunch of other towns and cities also have festivals. Don't get me wrong, it's super awesome, but it's also quite low key.

Well, I feel a little better, then. I figured it was a larger scale event than that. I've just been agonizing a lot about how I'm going to do all the cool stuff that's happening this year when I'm stuck all the way at this side of the state.

Alas! I am already overbooked on Saturday. Drum corps, then a Burner stitch&bitch at which I have to deliver cookies.I could probably make it for a bit in the evening, though I have no idea where you live.

Ice falling...er, skating sounds like it'd be fun. My old, fat butt on a slippery surface--comedic gold!
