I feel like shit right now.  No, really.  This really started on Friday evening, although I felt somewhat odd/crappy on Thursday, too.  My head hurts, but not like a migraine.  I've been dizzy, feeling like the room is spinning, but not light-headed the way I sometimes get.  My stomach hurts, but not like I ate something bad.  My back and neck ache.  I can't tell if I had a fever or not at any point.  I feel oddly weak.

I do NOT have a sort throat, sniffles, or anything that I typically associate with having a cold.  This doesn't feel like a cold.  I just feel like shit.

I do not have TIME for this.  I'm leaving for Boston (going to Arisia, the regional sci-fi/fantasy convention) on Thursday.  This is one of my favorite conventions of the year.  I have shit to do.  I have to go to the gym.  I have errands to run.  I have costumes to tweak.  But I barely want to get off the sofa.  WTF, self?  WTF?

I'm going to take a shower and drag my ass out of the house.  I'm going to do some errands.  Pick up some necessities for my trip.  Going to go to church (because I will be gone for the next TWO weekends, and I seriously love going to my church - we've a very unique congregation).  Going to come back and do a minor carpentry repair on my dresser drawer.  Going to start packing costumes.  Going to do laundry.  Going to get my ass to the gym (yes, I am - I MUST).  Not going to accept excuses from myself.

But shit, I just want to curl up on the couch with a blanket, a cup of tea, the remote control, and a marathon of Star Trek episodes and rest the way I used to when I was a kid.  Instead, I'm gonna do a meme, have a light breakfast, and try to make myself useful.

Adorable meme from [livejournal.com profile] squeeloud_bb :

If I were a month, I'd be August, because that's my month.
If I were a day of the week, I'd be Saturday, because everything happens on Saturdays.
If I were a time of day, I'd be midnight - the end of the old and the beginning of the new.
If I were a planet, I'd be Mercury, because I am small, swift, and fiery.
If I were a sea animal, I'd be a dolphin, because they are intelligent and playful but still devious hunters.
If I were a direction, I'd be south, because I am fire.
If I were a piece of furniture, I'd be a futon because it has so many uses.  Not one of those cheap metal ones, either.
If I were a liquid, I'd be mercury.
If I were a tree, I'd be a yellow birch because they're not very common, they stand out golden in the forest, and their leaves and twigs smell like wintergreen.  Very unique, very beautiful, very noble trees.
If I were a flower, I'd be an apple blossom - understated but fruitful.
If I were a kind of weather, I'd be a thunderstorm.
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a piano (because I play them) or a tin whistle.
If I were a color, I'd be red.
If I were an emotion, I'd be determination.
If I were a fruit, I'd be a pineapple.
If I were a sound, I'd be rolling thunder.
If I were an element, I'd be iron.
If I were a car, I'd be a Nissan 370Z.
If I were a food, I'd be Vietnamese pho, because it looks so simple, but it's far more complex than it appears.  And can be very spicy.  :D
If I were a place, I'd be the mountains of New Hampshire.
If I were a taste, I'd be dark chocolate.  Very dark.
If I were a scent, I'd be the forest after a thunderstorm.
If I were an object, I'd be a Swiss Army knife.
If I were a body part, I'd be a hand.
If I were a facial expression, I’d be an enigmatic smile.
If I were a song, I'd be Defying Gravity.

Also, doctor. Do not argue with me. I bite. And I don't give a shit what you do or do not have time for.

Kinda hard to bite when you're a fair distance away, isn't it? *wink*

Hun, a doctor isn't gonna do a damn thing for this, so there's no point. I'm sure I'll be fine by tomorrow.

When you end up ignoring the symptoms to some deadly disease, I will laugh. And then I will cry. And then I will come hit you.

Painkillers are fun. Wheeeeee!!!

Date: 2010-01-10 04:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
No, they are NOT fun. I've had bad reactions to several types. I'm sensitive or allergic to various meds, and I don't like playing Russian Roulette with them.

Date: 2010-01-10 04:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mintcloud.livejournal.com
Painkillers give you bad reactions????

Dude. Your life sucks. There are days during a certain time of the month I literally cannot get out of bed without painkillers. And sometimes not even with them. I do not know how I would live my life if I didn't have my ibuprofen.

And no, I do not have PCOS and no, I do not have endometriosis. :P

Date: 2010-01-10 04:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Not specifically just painkillers. SOME give me bad reactions, some just don't work, and the rest... I avoid using them so that if I desperately need them, they're still effective. But in general, I'm allergic or sensitive to a lot of different meds, so I just don't like to fuck with them.

My life doesn't suck. Normally, my life is quite excellent. I just happen to be a bit run down right now.

Whoo, Boston! If you go to the aquarium, that's where I work, but if you're only in Boston for the weekend, I won't be there. I might be biased but it's an amazing aquarium if you've never been.

Actually I might be biased on this post as a whole because

If I were a place, I'd be the mountains of New Hampshire.

as a New Hampshirite, I approve of that statement!

Sorry you aren't feeling well, though. Sounds like that's how I feel pre-cold. Normally a tall glass of orange juice and going to bed early makes me feel perfect again the next day.

I lived in Boston and New Hampshire, hun. I actually only moved from Boston to Kansas City less than three years ago. Of COURSE I've been to the Aquarium. *grins*

And if you're in Boston, aren't you going to Arisia? COME ON! You should join us! It's at the Hyatt in Cambridge, along Memorial Drive (about three blocks from my old house).

What part of New Hampshire did you live in? I grew up in NH, and definitely consider myself a New Hampshirite! :D

From: [identity profile] emiliglia.livejournal.com
OMG! I had NO IDEA you were a fellow New Englander!

I'd never actually heard of Arisia until you posted about it. I'm intrigued by the yaoi screening, but since I'm living in Hingham right now, it might be a pain for me to take the red line back to Quincy at 2 AM.

My hometown is a suburb of Manchester. Spent summers going to Lake Winnipesaukee and then winters skiing Pats Peak, Loon, and Bretton Woods, predominantly. Then lots of hiking in fall - did Mt Washington in high school and I want to do it again but summer/fall is when I actually get work these days so it's hard for me to plan.

YES! Fellow New Englander indeed! *tackle-hugs*

You know... there are ways to find crash-space at the convention. I don't have any space left in my room, but dear gods, we'll come up with SOMETHING. You MUST stop by! At least for a day! Come on... DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!

*cough*

Anyway, I grew up in a little town in the Lakes region - Middleton. My mom lives in Rochester now. I didn't ski, but I did a lot of hiking and camping.

Which suburb of Manch-vegas were you in? I know the area very well.

I could probably swing by for something during the day. Is there a general timeline of events on the website? I'm failing at navigation.

Sooo jealous that you grew up in the Lakes region. I have a friend from Laconia and I always loved going to her house. Although then she had to deal with bike week once a year.

I'm from Litchfield - little town with about 12,000 people in between Manchester, Hudson, Londonderry, and the Merrimack River.

Oooh, I do hope you can make it. If you can, PLEASE send me an e-mail or something. I'll look for you. My e-mail is faisons(at)gmail(dot)com. I don't know about a general timeline. I mean, there's a program on the website. Is it not easy to find? :(

I know where Litchfield is. *grins* My old Army unit was in Londonderry.

The Lakes region is gorgeous. I couldn't imagine a better place to grow up. I miss home terribly. Kansas City isn't bad, and I've met some awesome people here, but oooh, Boston you're my home! :D

(I also miss being able to see the lights of Fenway park from my street.)

Long time lurker popping out of the woodwork to express concern :(

When I had swine flu in October, I had a fever, I had no appetite at all, and I ached something fierce, but otherwise I had no symptoms that I normally have a with a flu. No cough, no sniffles, etc. which is a big deal for me because I ALWAYS cough when I get sick. However, my flu was also over rather quickly - 3 or 4 days - so hopefully you'll be up and ready for your con.

Hope you feel better soon!

From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
Well, I've been vaccinated against H1N1, so I really don't think that's it. I dunno. But thank you for your concern! I'm just being a bit whiny. Time for me to go be productive, I suppose.

*offers a basket of setsumas* I ate them when swine flu ran rampant in my office and I didn't get it, even though I didn't get a flu shot (Bad reactions to those things. They tend to make me and members of my fam as sick or sicker than the flu). And crossed fingers and good wishes that all will be well in time for the con. I'd send you a teddy bear, but you have a wife and I'm sure she's much better than a fluffy teddy bear. :)

Ps. If you want Setsumas, I can actually send those. My neighbor picked her entire tree...so instead of being able to eat them through the winter we have to eat hundreds over the next couple weeks. She thought they'd stay fresher off the tree. Really. She told me that when I asked why the tree was suddenly nude.

Date: 2010-01-11 04:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
OMFG I love satsumas. But she thought they'd stay fresher OFF the tree? Oh my. I would feel like an ass asking you to send them... but if you decide that you want to... *grins* But I'll be out of town for the next week or so. Back next Tuesday.

It's probably not swine flu. I DID get the H1N1 shot, as well as the regular flu shot. I might be allergic to a fair number of meds, but flu vaccines aren't on that list for me.

I WAS feeling better earlier, but I'm back to feeling like the room is spinning and my head feels funny. I have no explanation. :(

Be careful, you could have something awful like meningitis.

Date: 2010-01-11 04:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com
I don't think so. Despite the sore neck, meningitis is usually accompanied by a RAPID onset of symptoms that includes a HIGH fever. If that's what it was, I wouldn't have felt slightly better today (although I feel crappy again right now). Don't worry, I'm keeping track. I might hate doctors and admitting that I need any sort of help, but I also have this self-preservation instinct that likes to kick in at a certain point. :)
