(dammit, what am I doing up at 2am? Oh, yeah - the fanfic thing. I do tend to keep reading a good fic until it's done, no matter the time, LOL)
Well, I'm a quilter myself, which involves seams and ironing (*ahem* excuse me, "pressing" for the purists), but God help me if I have to sew clothes - much less hems! - or iron clothes!!!!11!!!! Oh, noes! So I understand about the costuming vs sewing thing, LOL.
And I was teasing you about fishing - sorry, the Beloved Husband taught me to give and take teasing almost 30 years ago (first day of college- it was romantic *snicker*), and I've totally climbed aboard the bandwagon, heh.
Lemme see... One comment thread started out with a reader calling you "lady" or "woman," I think - but I read that today and had already cued in that you were a guy. Hm. Nothing from your fics cued me in, I think... [examining meme responses] I think it was a combination of the "guy-ish" responses you gave (teddy bear, bourbon, "rough-but-tender," etc.) that my brain processed together and came up with "guy."
Would a woman have answered any of those questions as you did? Well, sure, but I think somehow it was the combination of the guy-answers that made the puzzle fit together.
Oh, and also I remember you mentioning about losing some men under your command (I grieve with thee!), that also said "guy!" Again, not that a woman wouldn't have felt the same, I just think she would have phrased it differently.
[steps back, examines answer] Yeah, I think that's going to be as coherent as I'm gonna get tonight. But it was mostly an intuitive feeling, rather than anything very specific I can point to, sorry! I'm a very odd mix of logic/practicality and intuition sometimes, so sometimes I can't quite explain my reasoning in a concrete manner.
Anyway, one more chapter tonight, then I'm crashing... ;-)
