Bad horse. No carrot.
Apr. 11th, 2005 10:03 amSo, I went riding yesterday... you know those times when you just have a "feeling" something bad is going to happen? Well, I went out bareback (which I often do), and took him down to a large open field. We were walking along the perimeter of the field, and things are going great, and suddenly, something scared him. I keep thinking it was either a bird or a squirrel in the trees on the edge of the field.
Anyhow, he reared up and spun around, and took off at a dead gallop... and I ended up on the ground. (I'll bet if I'd had actually saddled him instead of riding bareback, he wouldn't have thrown me.) Whatever it was must have really scared him, because he raced all the way back to the barn. My biggest worry when I saw him running off was that he'd hurt himself or get hit by a car. He's fine though, although he was a bit out of breath.
As for me... I'm sore, but I'm fine. Sore neck/back. I would have gotten back up on him immediately, but it was getting dark out. So, I hand-walked him until he cooled down, and put him in his stall. I'll ride again on Tuesday.
Right now... I'm about to leave for Fenway Park. Look for me in the right-field grandstand! :D
