If anything, I think the really excellent fanfics out there might get misunderstood because of how good they are. Too many textures for a simple palate, one might say.
I should also have said that I also liked the Chapel and Spock moments. I'm pro-Christine in sickbay stories. And the look she gave McCoy after he ordered her for Kirk's stats... ha.
