Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Poll - PLEASE VOTE!

I know that the sexual orientation and gender identity demographics of my friends list are NOT the same as the demographics and statistics for the population at large. However, I'm curious... what ARE the demographics for my friends list?

Please, help me satisfy my own curiosity and vote. Gay, straight, it doesn't matter. Real life friend or fandom friend, it doesn't matter. I want as many people to vote as possible. I want to get as accurate a picture as I can of my Livejournal community.

Please pick the answers you most comfortably identify with. This is about how YOU define YOURSELF. If I missed an obvious choice that I should have included, please forgive me for that oversight. I tried to hit the most obvious ones that I know.

The poll is anonymous - the public will NOT be able to see who gave which answers.

Thank you!

Holy fuck, I love livejournal!

Hrm, I puzzled over this a bit. I do consider myself as heterosexual but I admit to having a few thoughts over the years. *hugs you*

I'm not sure where "two on the Kinsey Scale" fits on the list, but that's where I live.

Very interesting!

These types of questions always make me think I am being a bit dishonest in life because I most people assume I am heterosexual because I am married to a guy. Because we live in a hetero-normative society this assumption works to my advantage. However I always wonder if I should correct people...but in a professional context it can just complicate things. When you're on my situation, there's a fine line between defining your sexual orientation and just giving some people TMI.

Considering that my usual answers to these questions are not only "essay" but "really long essay," you've done a good job of multiple choice-ing this.

I personally fall somewhere on the asexuality spectrum - at the moment I think that I'm somewhere around biromantic asexual.

I voted "heterosexual in every way" since I've always identified as that, but I have, technically, kissed a girl, and there is at least one woman in the world who I would hypothetically have sex with, probably..

[identity profile] waterdragon.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd say I'm primarily heterosexual, however I do enjoy a womans body from time to time. And I'd say I'm mostly female, however there is a repressed boy/man (though said boy is quite definetly homosexual and submissive) in my body that I enjoy fantasizing about from time to time.

Was difficult to choose between heterosexual and heteroflexible!

One of my friends was talking about whether or not his friend still counted as bisexual if he'd been in a gay relationship for 7 years. I didn't bother pointing out that I had been in a straight relationship for 4 years and still thought of myself as bi. (admittedly this was over some alcohol but the group conclusion was 'it depeneds what's in his porn file.')

I love that you included "Try-sexual"! LOL I've always said I was Try-sexual, as I'll try almost anything twice (since the first time might have been a fluke). ;)

I want to have a hot tub party with your flist.

The next poll?

How would you define yourself?
Monogamous -- I am in a committed relationship that neither of us wishes to leave for a very long time.
Serially Monogamist -- I tend to have (relatively) brief relationships and when they end I find myself in a new one in a (relatively) brief time.
Swinger -- My partner and I have some arrangement that results in our having sex with other people.
Philosophically Polyamorous -- I believe that I can love more than one other person, but am not in a relationship like that right now.
Practicing Polyamorous -- I am in more than one relationship right now and all concerned parties are aware and okay with it, according to preset rules or expectations.
Polyfidelous -- I am in a closed multiple-partner relationship.
Some other thing not described above.

(Note: The above definitions are my understanding of the terms and may not describe all people who use that term. I am also obviously not completely versed in all possible terms. :) )

[identity profile] trigeekgirl.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually use the term "mostly straight" if someone actually asks, although generally they don't. :)

If I go by "Hurr, lesbian", I am a 5 on the Kinsey scale.

But if I go by my gender id., I'm but a mere two.

Nice poll, btw.

Heterosexual: 32. Something other than: 111.

Fandom is awesome. Most people I know IRL throw a hissy fit if you insinuate that they're even a little bit gay. :D ♥

I had to look up heteroflexible, heh.

[identity profile] kaberett.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
More specifically: genderfluid, with some very, very male days, and much rarer very, very female days. Usually I am not enormously aware of my gender, beyond the odd bit of irritation with my breasts, until I find myself compelled to wear female-coded formalwear, at which point I very definitely notice myself feeling male-spectrum (I always wear male formalwear when I have the choice, and am about to spend Some Money such that I have the choice more often). I bind once or twice a week, depending on the weather and how recently I've done the laundry. I'm female-assigned.

OMIGOD BEST POLL EVAR!!!
I have always defined myself as "straight, but not narrow." I think "heteroflexible" totally covers that. Thanks for this!

[identity profile] julialovesrain.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My gender identity is more like "apathetic." It's just a dress-up game to me that provides us socially-inept people with useful guidelines for how to behave in public ;)

Also (taking off on a completely random tangent here), I personally don't like the idea of gendered power in the spiritual/religious sense. Spiritual experiences for me usually involve some sort of nature-based/meteorological event. I know Gaia has a women's spiritual group that meets on a bimonthly basis, and I feel like I should go and check it out sometime... but then again I don't.

Interesting poll! :)

I kind of want to say "all of the above" for the second question. I think I'm young enough and un-self-aware enough that anything I say now may be different in ten (or just one) year[s].

If I had to pick, it's "Fuck labels, I define myself." But I don't have to pick, so I won't.

[identity profile] nightshadow-t2.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
That was fun. I wavered between heteroflexible and I define myself for a bit before going with the latter. I'll notice other females and that they're attractive, but it's a bit like my like for abstract art. I notice and pay momentary attention to it, but it would take something/someone exceptional to actually hold my attention beyond an initial acknowledgment. It's not impossible, just improbable. :)

The gender questions made me smile. I'm rather tomboyish in some ways, but that's more because my Grandfather was the one who looked after me while my Mom and grandma worked. His idea of entertainment for a kid were regular treks to the local hardware stores and building pigeon and rabbit traps (non-lethal, so they could be kept as pets) as well as any other construction projects that were handy. Dresses and other fancy clothes either didn't survive the construction projects or could get you injured, so I came to dislike wearing them.

I read slash mainly because the mainstream het romance books bore me to death. I don't like being able to figure out the plot and sequence of events less than 30 pages in.
