Fic: "Crossfire"

Title: "Crossfire"
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mijan
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] vengefuldemon69
Fanmixer: [livejournal.com profile] ryuutchi
Betas: [livejournal.com profile] vixys , [livejournal.com profile] gone_ashore , and [livejournal.com profile] mga1999
Test Reader: [livejournal.com profile] shinychimera
Series: ST: XI
Character/Pairing(s): Kirk & McCoy, Pike, Scotty
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 140,000
Warnings: I beat the fucking shit out of Jim Kirk, and give you all the goddamned details. I also cuss a little bit.
Disclaimer: Gene Roddenberry is God, Paramount Pictures is Pope, and this is the blasphemy of a wayward faithful. My geeky spirit is rich, but my purse is empty.

Author’s Notes: This story is part of the Academy-era story arc, which includes Convergence and And All the King’s Men.”Crossfire” is a direct sequel. Several things in this story will not make sense unless you’ve read AAtKM first.  If you haven't read the other stories, before you start digging into this monster of a fic, only to find yourself asking, "What the fuck is he talking about?" please read at least AAtKM.  Better if you read both.

Please also note that with AAtKM, "Crossfire" is the second in a three-part Academy story arc.  AAtKM was the first part of the Academy trilogy.  The final part of the trilogy will be posted sometime next year.

This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang  challenge.  Therefore, I was teamed up with a fanartist and fanmixer who created art and a soundtrack, respectively, for this story.  Please check out their work at the links below!

Summary: Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy are on top of the world at the academy until it all comes crashing down around them. Trapped in their own mystery of politics, sabotage, and possible murder, it quickly becomes impossible to know who to trust. Worse, Jim might still be a target. With a dangerous criminal on the loose and Academy leadership not doing enough, Jim and Bones have to get their lives back together and find out what happened... before it happens again.

Awww, looking forward to reading it but as I'm just wrapping up my own monster story, it might take a while :) Just wanted to mention it so that you don't wonder why it takes me so long!

I can't wait to start this but I can't see the art. :(

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The art will be unlocked as soon as the fanartist unlocks it this afternoon. She gave me the link ahead of time because I'll be unavailable to edit the post and add her link later today when she unlocks it. I'm sorry - it was a timing issue. Don't worry, it will be unlocked soon.

Dude, it's okay. I haven't read ANY of the fics from [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang yet because I've been busy writing. I totally understand. I hope you enjoy my fic when you get to it! And I can't wait to read yours!

I am not allowed to start this until my portfolio is finished.

Repeat until I'm convinced. :)

I DO want to read this, but if I start, I will get behind! <3

I'm a shocking person, I know, and I'm so sorry that I never got round to working the final draft out with you - but, as you may have gathered from my total absence from LJ, uni is fucking crazy.

I DON'T CARE. It's an amazing fic, and (from glancing at the link to chapter 19), I'm so glad you kept that ending - when I read it, even at that early, unfinished stage, it gave me shivers. This is a ridiculously powerful fic - because it feels real and it feels painful and it just feels, so much.

In summary, I'm a failure, and you're amazing. ♥♥

also when I try to read AtKM it says the link is broken or something :(

Here's a link to AATKM since [livejournal.com profile] mijan is having a well deserved rest: http://mijan.bravehost.com/andallthekingsmen.htm

Hi,

I know this is a long shot but do you by any chance have a single file version in HTML or Word doc?

I loved your other story All the King's Men and I'd love to read this one too. :)

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a coding error. I fixed it. Too much HTML in too little time broke my magical coding powers. LOL. Don't worry, the fic is definitely still there.

Also, I have a Masterlist of my fics, too:

Because of the sheer length of it, it's broken into three Word documents. (One document got WAY too unwieldy, and I couldn't keep track of it all.) I'm going to be uploading it to AO3 in a couple of days, but I can't handle it right now. Do you need a file so you can read it, print it, etc?

I can wait until it's uploaded to A03. :)

I was going to read it on my e-ink device. Internet at work has just about everything remotely considered fun blocked so the easiest way to read fic at work is load it to my device and read during lunch and whenever else I have free time. I just can't read it on my computer.

If you promise to come back here and let me know what you think of it, I can e-mail you the three Word documents. Would that be good?

My e-mail address is faisons (at) gmail (dot) com.

Well considering I do leave feedback for almost all the stories I read I don't think it's much of a hardship to let you know how much I enjoyed the story after I finish reading it. :)

I'll email you in a bit.

[identity profile] blumvale.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks :)

thanks and I love your icon :)

Thanks! I wish I could remember where I found it. :D

::raises hand:: I will no longer complain about the length of my current writing project, as you have soundly kicked it in the ass and made it whimper under the bed. How long did this take you? And am I allowed to feel jealous at your speed? ;)

I'll start on it in an hour or two, I've gotta wake up and do some chores first. ;)

<3

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
LOL - I started writing this in July. I've been interrupted a few times by conventions, events, illness, and surgery, but I managed to get it done. I think this gives me a free pass to skip NaNoWriMo this year. I seriously don't know how I managed to finish it.

Wake up, have some coffee... and tell me what you think when you get to reading? I'd love to know what you think. :D

[identity profile] anruiukimi.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, definitely thrashed. I wish I had your concentration skills, I'm half-convinced there's some undiagnosed ADD in me somewhere. ^^; I will say on behalf on all your readers that we are thrilled that you finished it. :D

I had actually JUST finished reading when you replied to this, but I decided to shower first before I commented, so my thoughts are coming forthwith. :)

As for coffee? Don't drink the stuff. :P I actually am on a caffeinated drinks extended break to help me lose the almost 12lbs I put on over summer. ^^;

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I never used to be able to write so fast. The more I practice, though, the better I get. Plus, I was immobile some of the time, post-surgery, so it gave me plenty of time to edit and finish. But yeah, I work full time and usually have a life, so it's kinda crazy that I managed to finish this in just a few months. I'm... kinda proud, really. :D

Showers are good. I look forward to seeing your thoughts! :D

Awww, I love coffee. That's one of my own tiny character quirks I imposed on McCoy, although he drinks more of it than I do in the fic.

Wow, congrats on the weight loss endeavor! Here's to your continued good health!

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww, I understand, hun. Believe me, I remember how busy university can be.

I hope you have a chance to read this fic in its final form soon, because I did change a lot. Added a lot. Fixed a lot. But I'm glad you were pleased to see that I kept that ending. I really liked it too.

And you are ALSO amazing, so don't even give me that. ♥

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
The fic will still be here, hun.

But the rum... might be gone. ;)

[identity profile] anruiukimi.livejournal.com 2010-11-07 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
I've actually been dictating my fic the last few weeks...helps me get it out of my head sometimes. Then I caught a cold and got derailed for a bit. ^^; Yeah, I work full-time too, but you definitely have more of a life than I. I don't have any excuse. :P

I love the smell of coffee, but the taste does nothing for me. I can drink it, but yeah, not my thing. :P I do the same thing with quirks of mine in Western Skies, (Jim making casseroles and thinking John Denver was boring as a kid are two I can think of offhand,) and it was easy for me area-wise as I actually live on the outskirts of the Mojave Desert when I'm not in Japan. :)

I'm already rather overweight, but this summer was just a hot humid mess, and I basically sat around munching the whole time. 5'3" and 192lbs is not generally a good number to be (my triglycerides are through the roof too, waaay too much carb intake.) Down to 180 at the moment, hoping to get rid of at least another 20lbs in the next 3 months or so. :) Thanks!

OMG, right now I can't even find the right words to describe how uch I love this fic. Seriously, I'm speechless and right now I just want to hug you for writing this one <333

When I started reading the fic... I wasn't able to stop. I had to read EVERYTHING at once XDDD The ending is just PERFECT, you kept it in a very, very good quality, your style of writing is AMAZING... I wanted to hug Jim, Bones, Pike and Scotty for THE WHOLE TIME... it was heartbreaking, but wonderful, and the ending made me smile and... it was just PERFECT.
I feel like I should thank you for writing this XDDD May I hug you, please?
