Attention Firefly Fans

...or anyone else with general geek loyalty... which is pretty much my whole f-list, so... EVERYONE!!!

NASA is holding a contest to name the new node to the International Space Station.

One of the options is "Serenity."

VOTE HERE:  http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/name_ISS/index.html

Also... Last night I went to the movies with a friend of mine, and we watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."  It was really really good.  Just had to say.  Definitely worth a watch.  Very different.  I like different.  I recommend it.

Now, go vote for "Serenity!"

Serenity matches well--so does Tranquility, and they have a similar meaning. Legacy comes close enough, I think.

Popular television just annoys me, is all. Firefly and Serenity and Dr. Who--they'll never get my attention. Fun is all well and good, but we're naming the Internatonal Space Station based on--not necessarily in your case, but I would be willing to bet that mose of the people who voted for Serenity fit that bill: "omg!!1!! taht show is teh best!" without any real regard to the magnitude of the accomplishment that we are naming. I just thought it ought to have a better legacy than "yay tv!"

...after choosing my icon I am forced to admit that Star Trek is/was popular televison and I love it.

LOL... and I feel there's nothing wrong with applying a bit of pop culture to science.

What's in a name? Is not a space ship by any other name still capable of Warp 7?

Your icon is wrong--to BOLDLY go!

OH WAIT FUCK. I GET IT NOW. DAMN. Obviously you win this round.

Psh, maybe I'm just an elitist. *shrug* Although one would expect a space station to stay in orbit rather than prancing about at Warp 7.

My mother is amusing: you know how a car in Drive will move forward if you're holding neither the brake nor the accelerator? That speed is "Ahead Full Impulse" according to her. /random

MUAHAHAHA! Icon FTW!!!

And yes, a space station would stay in place, but I indicated a "space ship," thereby rendering your space station argument null and void. :D

Random: Whenever I'm maneuvering a cart or something else around people, I tend to say, "Maneuvering thrusters only, Mr. Sulu."
