Yeah, that's pretty much what they do. Take some stuff that very few people understand, market it to people who definitely DON'T understand it, and mish-mash it with some feel-good woo, and remind people that the Evil Powers That Be don't want you to know these Amazing Seekrits (TM), and people will just suck it up.
