THE SHAT... is in town.
Okay, so I just got an inside scoop that William Shatner is currently in town, in Kansas City. I know where he's going to be... and it's less than 5 miles from my house. If you were me... would you go? It's a public event, and yes, it would be something I'd have an interest in doing on my own. But this event is NOT Star Trek related. Not at all. He's not in a "public appearance" of any sort.
I don't want to be weird, but... but... SHIT, it's the SHAT.
Dude... I wonder... I wonder...

Of course I'd go.
Insanely ridiculously jealous of you right now...

I don't know what to do. I am... in a state.

If it's a public event, then it's not stalkerish at all. Just don't freak the poor guy out, yeah? He might drop from a heart attack, and then you'd have all classic Trek fandom after you (and some of them might be nasty about it. ;) ).
*hugs*
ps. if it's not Trek related, I'd definitely leave the costumes at home, but that's just my take on it. ;)

And am considering bringing one of his Star Trek novels in case I can get him to sign it.
BAD MIJAN. BAD BAD MIJAN.

There. You have a bone-fide service project. You can't say no to a service project.

Fuck.

And by "are you crazy," do you mean I'd be crazy to bring the fan-gaggle there, or crazy NOT to?

I... bwhaaa...
It's just that I have a VERY strong philosophy of NOT pestering famous folks in their private time. I mean, I actually get angry when I see photo sets from paparazzi that were obviously taken when an actor is just trying get to his car, buy a cup of coffee, cross the street, and just want a bit of elbow room to do that on their own. I don't like it when the actors we admire/respect begin to resent us. I don't want to be the cause of that.

Good lord.

You guys at the meetup are gonna hassle me until I tell you where he is, and lead you there, won't you?

On one hand it is the SHAT and on the other I can see your points about not wanting to intrude on his private time.
From what I know of you, you will be quite respectful and not one of *those* fans. I say go, just because how often will you get another chance like this?

Hell yes, go! You'd be utterly mad not too, seeing as he's someone you like/admire, and he's that close. If you do go, have a good time, and report back *g*

On the other hand, I'd love to meet Leonard Nimoy, but he grew up in Boston.

Not that I really love the Shat, at all. But i think it would be really interesting to see what he has to say.

I hate that kind of intrusion as well. My brothers ran into members of some rock band years ago at the San Diego Zoo. They were there with their children. My brothers wanted a photo with them, and I said absolutely not. I would not be party to intruding on what was obviously family time.

If I were in your boots, I'd go and be just another attendee. If you HAPPEN to run into him, be cool about it ... ask him if he's enjoying the show and whatnot. DON'T bring the book. Be casual. MAYBE, if he's being cool, see if you can get a photo. MAYBE.
Then, go to the meetup afterwards with your respect intact, but your fan cred rating soaring. You will have met the man, but not been uncool about it.
Good luck actually making a choice at the end of the day.
