Oh-oh, BOSTON, you're my home!

I'm coming home!

At least, I'm coming back to Boston! For a week. I know, it's not much, but... OH MY CITY!!! *bounces gleefully*

I shall be arriving in Boston on the morning of the 8th of August (Saturday, for those of you without calendars within easy reach). That afternoon, I shall be hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] kriken and her boyfriend, as well as [livejournal.com profile] tsuj , maybe [livejournal.com profile] 43duckies if I can reach her, and possibly [livejournal.com profile] jelliclekat and a friend of hers. I know [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots will be in town already, but will probably be hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] nqdonne that day, unless you two want to join us for lunch in Chinatown before going off to do your own thing.

[livejournal.com profile] kriken has offered to pick me up from the airport (OMG THANK YOU), but my idea is that a bunch of us could get together for lunch in Chinatown that afternoon. Of those people within striking distance of Boston, who would be interested in a fandomish lunch?

Also, the following Friday (the 14th), I'd like to organize a proper fandom get-together for [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots before she returns to England. Does anyone have any thoughts, preferences, suggestions, ideas, or input for such a get-together? Would we all like to see the HBP movie together? What do you think?

While I'm in the city, I'll be staying in Brookline, but I'll be hopping from Boston to New Hampshire a couple of times during that week.

So, who would like to meet up on Saturday, the 8th?   What about Friday the 14th?  What would you like to do?

Oh, now I'm going to have that song in my head ALL DAY.

Have fun, bb! :D

Love that dirty water! (I love Boston!) Love that dirty water!

[identity profile] tavi-b.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not going to be anywhere near Boston, but love your icon!

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* Icon fun!

[identity profile] froggie.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO THAT. Oh god that would be so awesome if I could meet you cool cats. :O

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
We'd love to have you! Let me know if you can!

[identity profile] auroraceleste.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Email me or pm me sometime soon, I have a task I need you to complete soon for DC.

[identity profile] paper-legends.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I sensed Masshole in you! (Went to Emerson for two years before transferring...) Be good to Beantown and have yourself a blast!!!

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Whadaya mean, sensed Masshole? Do I somehow exude Boston? It's not the accent, because I never developed a Boston accent. Where'd you pick that up?

(And of course I'll have fun... but why do I have to be good?)

[identity profile] paper-legends.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
We smell our own... (If you can't be good, be good at being bad...)

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*Grins*

Yeah, there's just something about us Bostonians... awesome people, we are. You can take the geek out of Boston, but you can't take Boston out of the geek. :D

[identity profile] paper-legends.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
So true. Of course... it COULD also be I'm the reincarnated John Adams and we knew each other in a past Bostonian life? *wiggles eyebrows*

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe it's the aroma of too much Sam Adams BEER. :D

So... any chance you might meet up with our little gaggle of slashy fandom goodness in town next week? We've got a mix of Harry Potter and Star Trek slashers. Fun people. You should come. Can you?

[identity profile] paper-legends.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Alas, alas--I was born and raised in Baltimore, went to school in Boston, worked in LA, but now I am living in North Carolina, which requires a plane to get to Boston... If I could afford to take a vaca to Beantown, I so would, and I'm touched by the invite--I know I'd have a blast b/c any friends of yours are def awesome people... But rain check? Eventually we'll be in traveling range of one another and then hang! (And there is no such thing as Sam Adams, let's just be honest... ~_^)

I'm having puppies on the 8th.
No.
Wait.
That didn't come out right. (Yuck! Neither did that!)

I am puppy-sitting, but not sure what time. I still may be able to join y'all. I am pretty sure the 14th is clear.

Wait, are you still good for me staying over on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday nights that week? Are you going to be able to tour Boston with us?

Re: bahston

[identity profile] tsuj.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, of course I'm good for you staying over. I only have the pups on the 8th. The touring will depend on my booboo foot. It's getting MUCH better! *hopes for best*

Oh phew! I was worried. Well, if you can't join us on the 8th, clearly I'll see you PLENTY during the week. I can't wait!

bah. late to the party as usual. *facepalm*

but! at least i didn't miss the actual get-together times. w00t! and i am free both days (except for saturday morning church, which i could skip if i had to) -- and would definitely love to join you guys. shocker, i know. :P

my only problem, being stuck in lynn, would be getting a ride/figuring out how to get there by public transport. i could try asking begging my dad to drive me, if i knew the times.

as far as ideas for the 14th... i think seeing HBP together would be pretty awesome, especially since i haven't managed to see it yet. (it's true. *massive FAIL*) we should try to catch the matinee if we do that; because, not only would it be cheaper, but also less crowded -- so more of us could sit together.

i also think that if there's at least a couple artists and/or writers among us, a casual round-robin would be pretty great to do (and people who don't normally write or draw can always join in when it's something like that). i've never actually had the chance to do one, but always get jealous when people talk about how fun it is.

if there's still more time left... aside from just sitting around and talking (which, hey, is always pretty fun in itself), there's probably games we could play. like fandom charades, or improv games. or that one people were playing at azkatraz, "are you a death eater?"

although... i guess we'd need cards for that last one, huh?

Well, if you can catch a ride (either from someone you know, or the commuter rail) into the city for around noon this Saturday, I'm hoping to do lunch in Chinatown. Do you like Vietnamese food? :D

Also, hitting a matinee for HBP sounds like a grand idea. Drabble time, too. Oooh, I should bring a sketch book! :D

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/supes_/ 2009-08-05 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, you absolutely should! (i know i'm bringing mine.) i have yet to see your art skillz in action; and that's a crime, i think.

Do you like Vietnamese food?

i... have no idea. i know i tend to like various asian foods in general, but you certainly can't just lump them all together -- and i don't think i've ever had vietnamese. as long as someone can help me figure out what to order, though, i think i'm good. :P

and yeah, i believe i can swing noon (i may even be able to go to church; i think the service gets out around then). would it still work if i end up being a little late?

and how/where would we all be meeting?

I don't mind if you're a little bit late.

I could meet you at the top of the escalator for the T station. Park street, red line, I believe. :D

Also, I'd give you my phone number.

yeah, that's a good idea (especially if there's a chance of lateness. though that's slimmer now, since it turns out i'm not going to church this week after all). that way i can just call you when i'm getting close, yeah?

my email's evil_candy13 [at] hotmail.com. send me your number, and i'll send you mine. (or if you have aim, poke me on there: it's Supergirl210483.)

i thought the station for chinatown was actually called "chinatown," though? sorry, i haven't ridden the T in ages...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/supes_/ 2009-08-07 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
or... i guess all those stops are near each other, aren't they? just so long as we're clear on which one we're meeting at. (i mean, you sounded like you weren't totally sure.)

anyway, before i forget to tell you--

i have a friend who wants to come. i hope that's alright? she's... HP-curious, let's put it. she's read the books, and i'm trying to get her more into the fandom. i mean, she's in fandom (and definitely a slasher), i just know her through something other than harry potter.

i figured saturday's lunch would be more casual, in terms of who can come and not be out of place. plus it would be a good opportunity for me to get her in on some of that HP geekage. (...plus plus, i think i could really use a travel companion so i don't get lost on the subway, or something. :P)

We'd meet at the Park Street stop. Red Line. I think the Orange Line crosses there, too, but I always take the Red Line to Park Street.

Yes, of course you can bring your friend! That's a good way to help suck people deeper into fandom - bring them to meetups! This will be very casual. :)

I'll post shortly on the HP_Boston meetup comm with details.

And I'll e-mail you for your phone number. :)

sounds good. park on red it is, then!

and we'll probably be a little early, even. in which case we'll just hang out at the front of the station (right inside the doors, somewhere -- i'm sure there'll be a place to sit) and wait for you. i guess call if you don't spot me? :)

(and i'll give you a call if we end up being late for some reason.)
